“ WHAT –– ? ISN’T THAT against so many laws? ” junhwan can’t help but frown at her offer ... but the crestfallen expression doesn’t last long on the dongnam student’s face because he’s suddenly amused by the idea of a bet as the corner of his lips soon quirk up into a grin that’s almost sparking with humor.

( and plus, a lifetime supply of cold noodles does sound nice. )

he thinks for a moment with a quirk of his brow and clucks his tongue expected because he’s never the one who tends to break social norms, people chose their respective schools for a reason and junhwan heavily believed in that ideology but haneun makes it sounds so ... fun. he can’t exactly pass up on that kind of social going with a friend –– but then again, junhwan was pretty sure it was breaking many, many rules.

junhwan sighs. this is going to end badly.

“…what are you doing here?” seokbeom didn’t mean to sound so cold. it’s just another thing to feel bad about, he supposes. “junhwan, you shouldn’t… you didn’t have to come here.” 

      °☆.。.:* — WHEN JUNHWAN FIRST hears about it, it’s an understatement to say that he was a little hurt. he thinks to himself that maybe it was a mistake, that seokbeom would invite him eventually, right? so junhwan waited and waited, and waited.

but after the second, third, fourth time hearing about the same birthday party hosted by a certain taechon student –– junhwan realizes it was never a mistake. he just wasn’t wanted.

it takes a while to get over the initial shock of it all because it shouldn’t hurt as much as it did, the fact that seokbeom didn’t want him at his party or the fact that seokbeom hadn’t even came up to him once to explain why. that’s why it takes junhwan at least an hour after the actual party started for him to build up the courage to show up, unannounced, with a present in tow as he takes those feeble steps up towards a familiar doorway and knock.

he doesn’t expect much ( he’s learned to stop hoping that things will be okay when seokbeom is seemingly hates him now ) so he’s not necessarily surprised when the front door opens to reveal an awkward and rather harsh birthday boy.

“ happy birthday, seokbeom-ah, ” junhwan murmurs anyway, the smile on his lips straining to stay still because the other’s words hurt, they really did, but it’s seokbeom’s birthday and junhwan was going to give him his gift rather he liked it or not. “ i just ... stopped by to give you your birthday gift. i –– uh, here. ”

then he hastily shoved the awkwardly wrapped gift towards the other boy. junhwan was no gift wrapper, anyone could tell by the amount of tape that was piled over the ugly gift wrapping but it was his mother’s and junhwan always thought the gift spoke louder than it’s wrapping. it’s a notebook, something rather small and had that certain design where it actually looks more older than it was but –– the minute junhwan had spotted that notebook in a window that belonged to one of those really expensive stationery shops around the corner of his house, junhwan knew that he had to get it for seokbeom.

as the kurin boy pulled into the dongnam school’s parking lot, a figure would catch his attention, causing for him to squint into the dimly lit area. or TWO figures, rather, since it was easier to see once he drove a little closer, but then…. in that moment, jaehyun would turn on his headlights due to the fast setting sun and found himself reeling back in his seat, as a soft curse left his mouth. 

it was the professor —- the one he had poorly impressed and….and junhwan? 

    °☆.。.:* — IF SOMEONE WERE to ask how junhwan would spend his friday nights, he wouldn’t particularly lie his way out of the situation because lying just isn’t someone that he is, ironically enough, since he’s a good guy –– captain of the dongnam’s renowned basketball team, gym enthusiast, someone who’s got a passion for setting a respectable example to his team members and peers. so yeah, junhwan’s a good guy and would never lie about his friday nights.

( but it’s not like he would exactly tell the honest truth, either. )

his friday nights were just a bit ... different than how they used to be because now, he has a new constant in his life. junhwan still dedicates most of his time practicing because it’s his last year at dongnam and scouts were soon going to fill the stands as well as avid fans and classmates so he’s got to work, work, work. it also helps that his coach is also his number one fan, his teacher, and his boyfriend all in one so junhwan’s definitely got his hands full for the rest of the year.

but the dongnam student so caught up in his constant worries about talent scouts and his new relationship that he doesn’t even think that in a million years, it’s jaehyun that would catch him in the lie.

he remembers briefly about a call from the other boy about some bribing for snacks and a late night run to the connivence store around the corner since both of their schedules matched up and it was only fair, but it doesn’t necessarily hit him until he’s standing with nohmin in dongnam’s parking lot with fingers laced tightly around the elder’s sleeve and a bid farewell on the tip of his tongue when he actually sees jaehyun’s car in the corner of his eyes ––

and he’s suddenly putting much more distance between nohmin and himself than necessary, reeling back with an innocent blink of his pupils and lips parted in somewhat of a surprised. he bows hurriedly in farewell to the other before rushing away –– away from the lie until he’s standing outside of jaehyun’s passenger door with a downward cast as if a child had been caught doing something unthinkable.

     °☆.。.:* — IT TAKES A moment to realize that it’s raindrops that’s spilling onto his cheeks and not tears this time around. it’s ironic how it starts pouring the second that he arrives onto the elder’s doorsteps; junhwan’s never thought that the weather has ever matched his mood more perfectly in his life. 

he only remembers snippets of it, hiding in his room for the remainder of the night until it became too unbearable to listen to any further; he remembers letting his mother into his house, the crestfallen expression that was held between her lips before she had asked to see his father in private. it’s been two years since the divorce has been finalized but junhwan, somewhere deep, deep in his heart, had always hoped that there was still room to rekindle that love and live happily ever after. 

( junhwan was a fool to ever think that. )

it hadn’t even been ten minutes until the fighting had started from inside his father’s study, the screams being too loud and too aggressive for the teen to ignore. he tried holding his breath, counting –– one, two, three before the chest ache became to unmanageable. he knew that this wasn’t his fight to begin with, hastily packing a bag full of clothes with aching pupils and shaking fists. he knew that he needed to go somewhere, anywhere, if he wanted to keep his sanity for that night.

and somehow, in the midst of all the tears and frustration, junhwan found himself on the doorstep of someone that he trusted the most.

he’s hesitant to let his fists rasp roughly against the wooden frame but he knows that the elder is home, the living room light can be seen from the bus stop despite the darkness that surrounds the area, so he knocks –– one, two, three before trying his best to muffle his angry sniffles that threaten to leak while using a sleeve to wipe his damp eyes hastily.

as conjectured, aeri was in good terms with almost every other inhabitants around. well, for the most part since the girl befriended everyone—keeping her social circle range intact, and given that she was associated to the dongnam soccer team; being rather approachable and such had came in the form of suit when she had admired junhwan in such ways. both sharing similarities to one another as he was one of the star players, yet, she only regarded him as a person deemed higher than her. after all, he was her sunbae.

and withal the aspects, it was the same for the latter as well. recalling a flashback whereas the other joked around that he was her lucky charm, so that his presence was indeed an essential when she was performing for the prestigious sports event. 

needless to say, it laid truth in those statements. 

which reflected onto him as well, since she actually took her time to spectate the team’s routines before a match. examining each and every detail to be taken, if there were any errors and such so she could prompt her opinion afterwards.

opting a few steps closer to the taller after it was announced for a break, “you did well, oppa! i think you’re ready for the next match!”

     °☆.。.:* — JUNHWAN never quite believed in luck when he was younger.

( but shin aeri was never in his life when that had occurred. )

junhwan was someone who was quite well-rounded, someone who offered nothing but optimism and positive vibes to anyone who had that grasp of a persona, and befriending someone like aeri never became a difficult task. instead, it became somewhat scary over the idea of being someone’s lucky charm because quite frankly, he never even believed in luck himself when he was younger.

luck ... was somewhat of a foreign feeling. his father had always thrived him to never believe in luck because luck was in fairy tales and fairy tales only happened when you worked for them. that’s what junhwan calls his ‘luck’ in basketball, years of hard work and determination that landed him in one of the most athletic schools and the captain of a favorable sport. 

but for some reason, junhwan believed he was her lucky charm.

with sweat dripping drastically off of loose strands that stuck awkwardly from the crown of his head, junhwan let out a huff of laugh between his short intakes for air –– an immediate smile displaying on his lips as his own steps grew to a stop until he was merely a few inches away from the shorter.
