Chefchaouen

Chefchaouen (شفشاون) is a beautiful mountain city in northeastern Morocco. Tourists flock here - this town is the embodiment of almost every Moroccan cliché. The picturesque medina, set against the dramatic backdrop of the Rif Mountains, is filled with white-washed houses with distinctive, powder-blue accents; the call to prayer rings out of several mosques around the town in chorus. Tourism here is also driven by its reputation as center of the marijuana plantations region of Ketama. Drugs are widespread and somehow tolerated, but touts trying to sell to tourists can also be very annoying. Spanish is the foreign language most spoken here, along with French.
