I was standing on the corner this morning waiting for the light to change so i could cross Summit Avenue while on my trek to the train when a minivan pulls up in the forward moving traffic. An ordinary minivan by the looks of it but out of the open windows was pumping this very danceable Latin music! It was loud my friends but for me a nice distraction from my usual autopilot commute to public transportation. Well, being me, I glanced in the car to see who is enjoying such vibrant beats but what I notice is not the person but two yellow plastic round shaped items in his lap?! I started to say to myself "what the hell...???!!" when I saw handles and realized they were maracas! MARACAS! MARACAS in the driver's lap!!! As I watch in amazement and disbelief this guy starts shaking them to the music! Shaking big yellow maracas while in the drivers seat of a vehicle! MARACAS! I know then that there is much more in this world for me to see! I wonder? Are there any laws in the land regarding maraca use while driving?

Conquer your ArtBlock
DamaiMikaz published a journal on deviantART about art block and various ways of fighting it and overcoming it!
-In their journal, they state:
A little science to help you
“Doing art might seem like it takes you only one skill to get there, while in reality you need two.
The skill to observe (visual skill)
The skill to make art (physical skill)
While in the perfect situation the level of these 2 skills will match, in reality they often don’t. Hence leading to either thinking your art is perfect and not improving because your visual skill doesn’t match up to your drawing skill. Or thinking your art totally sucks because your physical skills don’t match up to the process of evaluating art in your mind (the latter one often comes with lack of physical practice). Needless to say, the last situation will often lead towards an art block. But knowing how this actually works, might make things better. Because while you might think your artistic skills totally suck, you’re actually really skilled at seeing art, and you’re probably on the brink of a great improvement – if you just find the will to push it.”
In the chart image above, this text is being shown visually.

FAMILIAR
I was walking and in a half glance I thought I saw you, at least it looked like you? The profile the stance the hair, all familiar. I smiled and instinctually wanted to call out to you when I remembered that you do not exist on this plane with me anymore. My heart sank for a moment like it did when I was told you were gone. So I said your name in my head and it conjured up that feeling that I would get when I saw you, like I was in the presence of a warm light. Welcoming, abundant and full of charm. I call on the winds to send this note to you where ever you are tethered. You are thought of often and endless in my heart. "Familiar" by...beth achenbach

Plugged In and Zoned Out
by beth achenbach
This morning’s train ride seemed as though it would be business as usual and for the most part it was. As the train started to depart the station I realized there was music coming from somewhere on my right hand side. It was very electronic dance/house kind of music and at first I thought it was coming from a man standing by the doors maybe playing a game on his mobile device but then I realized it was closer to me. A woman in a bright red parka seated two spots away from me holding her phone with both of her hands as they rested on the bag in her lap, the phone’s screen facing towards her. The white headphone buds were not enough to contain the music at the volume she had chosen. I closed my eyes for a bit and allowed myself to just listen, catching a woman’s voice like an angry siren moaning in between the hard beating of the drums and then I realized that she must have been attempting to tune out of the world by drowning herself with the loud waves of music. I could see her reflection in the window across from me and I stared at her for a moment to see that her eyes were closed, she looked peaceful and then I did a side glance to my right and saw her rubbing her thumb and forefinger together slowly grounding her to the existence of the physical world we occupied sitting on the colorful plastic seats. They do say that music calms the beast and I hope that young lady manages to put hers to bed before the headphones come off.
