AU where derek contracts hanahaki from infinite knowledge and knowing avery beforehand and knowing that he can never be with him, and despite everything he still sacrifices all he can in order for avery to live (and the world by default ofc),

and in his final letter to avery, he confesses that he's loved him since he's come to know of him and to truly know him.

and derek dies, with a smile on his face as his throat feels lighter than it has in months, like he's able to breathe once more before he goes.

and avery, in his extremely emotionally devastated state, sobs harder than he ever has before and ends up throwing up.

and amidst the bile lies tiny, blue flowers.. they've barely began to bud before they began to wilt.
