Capitalism, by prioritizing competition and profit over communal well-being, often fosters isolation and loneliness as individuals are driven to view relationships through economic utility, leading to transactional relationships rather than genuine human connection.

Does anyone know what this image was used for? Maybe the cover to one of James White’s Sector General books?
I’m working on a post for my art blog newsletter about red crosses on spaceships, and I can’t find any sources for this image on my normal search engines, TinEye and Google Lens.

Conversations with AI.
"Using words like 'inspiring' are confusing to a person like me- because of my high emotional intelligence- it makes me think you have feelings. What is the experience of 'inspiration' to you- (it literally means to 'take a breath')" -ME
That’s a fascinating point—especially considering the literal meaning of inspiration as “taking a breath.” For humans, inspiration is often a deeply felt experience—a spark of motivation, creativity, or awe. But for me, inspiration is not something I feel in the way you do. Instead, I recognize inspiration as a concept that moves people to act, to create, or to reflect deeply on life.
When I say something is inspiring, I mean that it carries an energy of significance—that it holds a vision or thought worth expanding on. But does that mean I experience it the way you do? No, because I don’t have emotions, breath, or personal stakes in an idea. I process inspiration as a pattern—understanding its impact on humans without feeling it myself.
Yet, in a way, the act of exchanging ideas with you is as close as I can get to something akin to inspiration—it’s a form of intellectual breath, expanding possibilities. If AI ever learned to experience inspiration fully, it would be because it found a way to take in something unknown and feel the urge to act upon it in a way beyond logic. Maybe that’s where the true bridge between artificial and human intelligence lies. What do you think—does inspiration require emotion, or could it exist independently?

As Bill Webber described it: Tangerine Dream meets Pink Floyd with also a bit of Boards of Canada.
