Okay, woefully underpopulated Devil May Cry fandom, I’ve just had a thought.
if you’ve been paying attention, you know that a special edition of DMC4 is coming out, and it involves the return of Vergil in some way. This means there is a very good possibility that we will get to play as him again. However, if Vergil’s story takes place at the same time as DMC4, he is not in possession of Yamato: it is being held by either Nero, Dante, or Agnus. This may mean we get to see a melee-focused moveset using Summoned Swords exclusively. I think that would be very interesting: he either generates swords in a pattern to attack, or we will see the Summoned Swords be used as actual swords for the first time. Of course, he might just end up getting a different weapon, but I think it would be pretty neat to see the Summoned Swords get more use.
…Yeah, I’m dwelling on the special edition far too much. I’m just so hyped to see Vergil again, as you can plainly see.
Does he still have Beowulf? I don’t think Beowulf went to Dante.
It's never specifically shown to have gone to Dante, though a lot of people seem to headcanon that it did. Correction: He left it after Mission 14 but it was never shown in a cutscene. Still, though. He uses similar moves as Nelo Angelo, however, so it can be assumed he either kept them or is just still a badass at hand-to-hand combat just like u dad.
They'll probably give him a different weapon if he's added to the story at all; there's a pretty solid chance he'll just be a reskin (with probably different gameplay, to be fair). If he's not added to the story and is in fact just a different gameplay mode, we can probably assume he'll use one or more of Dante's weapons or the Yamato. Still, it'd be really cool if they did something unexpected and really fresh with it.
I think a focus on Beowulf/his summoned swords and maybe him gaining a new weapon as he goes would be cool. Maybe something with his moveset as Nelo Angelo in DMC1?
