ABJECCTV

abject 1. Sunk to or existing in a low state or condition 2. cast down in spirit 3. Showing hopelessness or resignation In the brink of the demise of capitalistic patriarchal society, different corporealities start appearing. We can see a shift in art that deranges away from this corporate notion of success and clarity of the artistic object, and starts exploring other (ickier) notions of self. Abjectivity is understood inside this context as something positive and inspiring. By distancing ourselves from perfect bodies, from well presented narratives, and clashing artists with pre existing conditions, ABJECCTV is a curatorial cycle by AntĂłnio Onio where the focus is in âcasted downâ bodies. Transmedial care is present, as the works are placed within the frames of performance art, installation, concert or simply ambigous. In a world that is changing more than we could imagine, we must recognize the artistic attempts that propose new spaces of action, and hopefully through this exchange, plant a seed in the mind of the viewers that will enable them to understand that what we reject and consider disgusting, might be our biggest salvation from the perils we have still to face.Failure, weakness, overemotionality, weirdness, awkwardness and post colonialistic expression are some of the themes that artists explore in their artworks. For two weeks prior to the event, they will invade the 4th floor of Gallery Neu West and inhabit these rooms, creating from this abject places sanctuaries where their work can be shown. The mix of artists goes from very well established artists to newcomers, as this clash between generations and experiences will always bring a new perspective to both sides, and the artworks will be shown continuously during the course of two days.
