He didn’t think Abed would be waiting for him at the airport.
Jeff didn’t know why, exactly. Because he was busy? Because he was working in the television industry, because he was a big deal? Because Jeff was a nothing man from nothing Greendale, and…
Feeling Abed’s face press to his neck made his heart stop.
You still matter to him. You know you still matter to him. Shut up. Shut up, shut up, shut up–
“You– yeah?”
Jeff’s fingers tightened in Abed’s shirt. His eyes shut, his head tucking against Abed’s own, and damn it– damn it, he didn’t want to let go.
“And here I thought you might’ve met people interesting enough to fill the void.”
His tone was joking, but.
“I…” Jeff swallowed. He pulled back slightly, looking down at Abed– his Abed, with the same eyes and the dark hair and too many layers for so warm a state. Imagining was easy, but to have him here was something else entirely.
His voice was very, very low (so nobody else could hear him say it). “I missed you too.”
But a whole summer and a semester without him was a long damn time after six seasons, and he felt he deserved the sentiment.
Abed was surprised by how much he didn’t want to let go of Jeff.
Normally, physical affection was difficult for him, though, with Jeff, it had seemed to be natural. Even when he had moved in with him, they were sitting shoulder to shoulder on the couch almost immediately.
And Abed had never minded. Not with Jeff.
A soft smile rose to Abed’s lips as he heard Jeff admit out loud that he had missed him, regardless of the volume of the words. He knew Jeff well enough to know that any admission of feelings took a lot for him, so he knew how significant and sincere the admission was.
His eyes moved over Jeff’s features, as if trying to make sure nothing had changed since he’d last seen him.
“I’m really glad you made it.”
He paused for a moment before smiling a bit wider.
“I almost did an homage to some classic airport scenes to greet you with, but I figured that might be a bit too much. Also, it doesn’t quite fit into the story since you were arriving.”
