A Beautiful Halloween

“THE POWER OF CHRIST COMPELS YOU!” – Father Merrin. This quote is from the movie “The Exorcist”, which is also based on a true story. (Spoiler Alert) The movie stars a mother and her seemingly healthy daughter. Chris MacNeil, the mother, starts to suspect something is seriously wrong with her daughter, Regan MacNeil, comes out during her dinner party and wets herself. The movie eventually leads to the mother getting ahold of a priest who then requests to perform an exorcism on Regan. Regan starts saying weird things and levitating. After watching this movie, I slept with the lights on for a whole week. It scared me since it was based on a true story.

The true story happened in the 1940s and the victim was a 13-year-old boy, whose name is Ronald. Ronald was closed to his aunt who taught him how to use a Ouija board. After his aunt died, weird things started happening to Ronald. He kept hearing scratching noise from the walls and floors, and water the pipes kept leaking. He also felt his mattress moving. The parents had Ronald seeing a psychiatrist, but it didn’t help their situation at all. They were eventually referred to a Catholic priest who requested to perform an exorcism. During the exorcism, Ronald broke off a spring from the mattress and struck the priest. Days later, red scratched that red Louis appeared on Ronald. They took it as a sign to go to St. Louis. They found Father Walter Halloran and Rev. William Bowdern to perform another exorcism. During the exorcism, Ronald had scratched appear on him as well as his mattress moving chaotically. Ronald would also exhibit abnormal behavior such as acting calm during the day and having wild outbursts during the night. There were also objects flying around violently. The priest continued performing the exorcism after all these events. Eventually, Ronald began shouting and cursing at the priests and urinating on his mattress. On April 18, 1949, Ronald had woken up with seizures yelling “Satan would always be with him.” The priests then laid crucifixes, relics, and rosaries on Ronald. That night, Ronald had come back to his normal self and said, “He’s gone.”

It’s a crazy event that happened. Some people would say it’s hard to believe and some believe it’s true. I have witness things that make me believe that possession is real and that it can come in different forms. You can be possessed by a spirit or a demon, which is worse. So many humans have died a violent death and their spirit haunts the land. Then the spirits possess human beings which causes a repeated cycle.

There I sit in my favorite place, the cemetery, looking at how beautiful the sunset is. I was wallowing in my thoughts, so deep that I felt the ground shake. “That was weird”, I thought to myself. Then I hear a quiet “ahh, noise”. I look around and see nothing. “Scary.” Then I turn back in front of me a see a hand coming from the ground. I screamed and fell back. I look up and see this dark figure struggling to walk towards me. Is it real? Are zombies real?

Believe it or not, the idea of a zombie has been around for centuries, and it makes you wonder why. Could they be real? Did someone see something? Turns out the word zombie comes from the word nzambi. In the language Kongo it means “spirit of the dead person.” A person who is brought back to life. But could they be brought back like the zombies on the walking dead. I believe they could. If there's an actual virus that existed.
