"Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair or fucking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man...and give some back."
BIOGRAPHY.
Abraham "Abe" Wainwright IV was born, raised, and shaped in the image of Paxton, AZ. Ranching is baked into the very marrow of his bones, and his eventual ownership of Blue Rooster was a promise he pinned all his plans on. From the moment he was old enough to sit upright on a horse, Abe knew what he was destined to do.
Abe is the latest in a line of Wainwrights owning the ranch that reaches back to the founding of the town. His father was a benevolent neighbor but a terrible businessman and nearly lost the ranch with his naivety. Abe did what was necessary to keep the legacy afloat.
He married his high school girlfriend the moment she showed him the plastic stick with little pink lines. It seemed he'd build his life early, before he could even grow a proper beard. But he couldn't have been happier. And then his father retired and signed the Ranch over to him. The accounts were a nightmare--debts to the IRS, unsustainable operating costs, IOUs written on diner napkins from men who had died decades past. Life got real faster than his wife could handle and she begged him to leave it all behind. When he went to her with plans to work with Charlie Cross, she filed for divorce and moved with the kids to Flagstaff.
He earned his brand by allowing the Cross brothers and their associates access to the Ranch for their transportation and trafficking needs. It was a win-win deal: they had a longstanding, legitimate operation as the clean front for their dealings and he got a hefty kickback that kept the Ranch profitable.
Randall had been like a little brother--the Wainwrights and the Kastings went way back. Abe's own father had been an important source of solace for Randall when his father died, but the old man never had a clue about the trouble he was getting into. Abe knew--he just never would have imagined the affair. As much as it pains him to admit it, the dalliance cast a shadow over the memory of his dear friend.
These days, it's all he can do to keep the legitimate parts of his business compartmentalized from the less legal activity. But he'll spend his last breath making it work. Every step he's ever taken has been in service to the Ranch. There is no alternative.

PLOT ARC.
Whatever it takes. He feels this struggle more acutely than the rest. He has more to lose, and that makes him more dangerous and steadfast. He’d burn the corporate building of Obsidian Holdings down if it meant the problem would be solved — he’s ready for blood. He originally thought that Randall was using Alicia for information, but he’s learning more, and it disgusts him. Randall didn’t get the job done, in his eyes.
