The newest addition to Mexican Summerâs Looking Glass series is Montreal-based artist Helena Deland and Los Angeles-based artist claire rousay collaboration âDeceiverâ. The intimate track spans just under 4 minutes long and the spaciousness of the instrumental lets claire and Helenaâs vocals intertwine beautifully. From the gentle strums of the guitar to the atmospheric ambient layers that fill the spaces in between, âDeceiverâ is a reflective track thatâll have you in a sonic embrace of yearning.
On the track, claire and Helena share:Â ââDeceiverâ takes place in the span of an evening during which the shadows of a female friendship are brought to light. Drawing from the clear setting detailed in the lyrics, field recordings taken at a park during the late hours of the evening weave in and out of prominence throughout the song. Itâs a plea for kindness in spite of there being no resolution or certainty.â

Back in June The Tallest Man on Earth (aka Swedish musician Kristian Matsson) shared a brand new standalone single, "Time of the Blue." Now he has shared another new song, the delicate horns- and piano-backed "Rivers."

MOST ANTICIPATED OF 2016 YET TO COME
Frank Ocean - Boys Donât Cry Local Natives - Sunlit Youth Okkervil River - Away Shura - Nothingâs Real of Montreal - Innocence Reaches M.I.A. - Â Matahdatah Slow Club - One Day All Of This Wonât Matter Anymore Phantogram - Three Cymbals Eat Guitars - Pretty Years Psychic Twin - Strange Diary
Premiere: Yumi Zouma, Yoncalla
The long-awaited debut full-length from Yumi Zouma brings with it a noted shift in how the band works. After growing up together in central New Zealand, they found themselves dispersed to northern NZ, Paris and America, which led to long-distance collaborating on their two breakout EPs (in 2014-15). Following a stint on the road (which found them opening for Lorde to very large crowds, and during which they were also able to write together in the same room), they hunkered down in Paris for a month of recording and mixing. This resulting album, says FACT, âhits stadium synth-pop leaps that wouldnât sound out of place from M83 or Chvrches while still maintaining the tender initimacy that made them so endearing to begin with.â

Jessy Lanza Listening Party Interview
Photos + Words By : Gabe Brenner, UCLA Radio Art & Design Manager (04/25/16)
Youâre from Hamilton, Canada, correct?
Iâm from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, yeah. That (Ontario) is the province.
Do you still live there?
I still live there, yes.
Did growing up there affect the way you make music now?
I donât know if the city itself did. I think what maybe affected the way I make music for a little while was going to school for music, but the city itself, not so much.
Does Hamilton have a developed music scene?
Yeah, they do, but itâs not like⌠Itâs not like Los Angeles (laughs). I mean, itâs cool, though. Thereâs a lot of local artists and itâs cool because itâs a city where thereâs a lot of⌠Kind of weird people doing weird art where the goal isnât to make money or to be recognized. I think itâs more because people are compelled to. They play music just for the sake of being creative, so you get a lot of weird stuff. Thatâs what I like about the city, though, because thereâs no other prerogatives in mind.

Back in January, I shared a short trailer of Adam Greenâs Aladdin and just a couple days ago, Green shared the full trailer for his film. I could already tell that this is going to be a weird movie but I think the extended trailer is even more bizarre, but Iâm super into weird things so Iâm excited to see this. Aesthetically, I love that the most, if not all, the props and sets were made out of paper-mâche and the bright colors.Â
Iâll possible be at the 4/14 Los Angeles premiere so I hope yâall come out! Cast will be there so Iâll be stoked to see Adam Green.

Flight of the Conchords Announce âFlight of the Conchords sing Flight of the Conchords Tourâ
Beloved New Zealand musical comedy duo Flight of the Conchords (Bret McKenzie + Jemaine Clement) recently announced their first U.S. show in three years: they will be headlining the Newport Folk Festival. Now our favorite Kiwis have announced a full on U.S. tour, amusingly dubbed as the âFlight of the Conchords sing Flight of the Conchords Tour.â Whatâs more, a press release promises that, âJemaine and Bret have new material in the works, which theyâll showcase exclusively at these shows.â The band has also teamed up with the charity Global Citizen for the tour.

Eaux Claire Festival Preview -- August 12th/13th, 2016
Review By: Alison Chi, UCLA Radio DJ (02/15/16)
I used to obsessively wait for music festivals lineup to be released, only to realize that every major music festival recycles the same artists over and over again. At some point, I was completely numb to music festivals: they were all the same. Just copy and paste Coachellaâs lineup to Lollapalooza, change Indio, CA to Chicago, IL.
Sure there would be a handful of music festivals that were somewhat different: Sasquatch and Lightning in a Bottle â but in the end, these music festivals were trying to make money. There was no real heart in curation.

Woo! I wrote an article for UCLA Radio on Eaux Claires. My love for Bon Iver grows and grows like a field of daisies.
I donât think HONNE has disappointed me at all. Theyâve but out so much great music last year and theyâve been keeping it rolling in 2016 with their Gone Are The Days (Shimokita Import). Theyâre pretty much killing it and for Valentineâs Day, theyâve released a fresh new track titled âWomanâ. This song is the perfect example of their music: soulful synthpop, slow rhythm, and stellar lyrics. Grab your Valentine and tell them you love âem!Â
Song is available for free download for a limited time! Snag it before you regret it.
