you sign up for the trial because you figure it'll be an easy $400, just take the pill, stay in the observation room for a few hours, and leave.
The pill goes down easy, and tastes sweeter than you'd thought. The room, on the other hand, is a bit stranger. Wall to wall, it's a garishly pink, voluminously soft, massive playroom. Replete with toys for kids of all ages, so long as that age was less than five.
And, just on the edge of your vision as you enter the room, there is what seems to be a costume rack. Numerous childish outfits, overalls, dresses, even onesies, are all lined up on one side of the room. Under that rack, you spy a few open packs of diapers, for some reason. Definitely adult-sized, but the adorable pastel animals adorning them could fool you. Whatever they're testing here, you're starting to wonder if its worth the $400, but well, money's money.
Still, you've got to kill time somehow, and given that you're a little old for stacking blocks, you plop down on a cushion on the floor and pull out your phone. And so you reach for your back pocket only to find it frustratingly empty. Right, you turned it in at the start, something about "mitigating outside influence", science shit.
