More like a mental break considering Tia was driving Abby fuckin’ insane. They barely had time to exhale, spinning back around to face her.
“Sure, I don’t feckin’ care, get angry! Give me something to work with!” When she stepped closer all they could offer was a blink of disbelief, “Oh?” followed closely by a laugh, taking their own step forward. If she wanted to get into their face, they’d get into hers, “Oh. I’m sorry. You say that like you weren’t going to kill my vessel. Remember that? He was havin’ a nice walk thinkin’ about if he was going to order in for dinner when I showed up – And d’you’know what? I happen to like the void, Tia. It’s MINE. At least it was mine. Now everything’s fucked. Do you think I’d be up here if I didn’t have to be? So go on then. Do it. Send me wherever you fucking want, Death. Do us all a favor.”
Abby didn’t like how they were speaking to her either but they were just so frustrated (more at the situation than Tia if they were honest with themself). Forgive them with being blessed with a knack for destruction. “You name a place worse than right here under this goddamn tree.”
They took a drag. Accepting whatever venom she wanted to throw their way. It was deserved.
“Yeah, well. ‘Suppose I’m pretty shit at making sense. I’m good at breaking things, Tia. I’m good at demolition. That’s it. You’re right: the prospect of us – of me forming anythin’ is laughable. I don’t do Earth. I don’t do human emotion. I don’t do this. Dunno why I thought I’d come up this time and ‘try it out’ – feckin’ hell. What a useless waste of both our time, sorry.”
She rolled her eyes. They were being so dramatic about the void, it was almost like they wanted the two of them to fight. Tia was already over this conversation… It wasn’t really something she did much, argue.
The horseman shook her head and let out a small laugh. “This is ridiculous, Abaddon. If you don’t do Earth why are you still here, huh?” She asked them. “You came all this way here… You had to know the vessel you were jumping into would be near me…” She realized how stupid it all sounded. Tia groaned in frustration, took a step back, crossed her arms and glanced down at her shoes. “You know what. Go. Go back to the void… You’ll be happier there. It’s where I’m not and where… like you said, is yours. Nothing confusing about it there. No emotions. Just…” She tried to come up with something witty to say but nothing came.
She noticed then that her face had become wet. Slowly, she reached up with her hand and patted the side of it. There were tears. “Oh great, now you’ve made Mavis cry. Good job, Abaddon. I’m never going to hear the end of this.” She muttered.
They had different ways of dealing with things; Tia found solace inward, Abby exploded outward, ripping into whatever was around.
“Right. At this point, if I could I would, Tia. But I’ve made an agreement with Lucifer I have to follow through on. — And maybe I did. Maybe I thought it was important you were the first to know. Maybe... I thought in some ridiculous, conflated way this was an opportunity to get to know you better. But we obviously do best when we don’t talk.”
They had looked away a while ago, reducing their frustration to a simmer. “Just what?” Turning to look at her again they were not expecting tears. “— Fuck me. — Tia don’t...” but it was too late wasn’t it? A heavy exhale, free hand raising to push hair off of their forehead. They paced backwards when she did, “This is all... It’s stupid — not you.” Pinching the bridge of their nose, pivoting to look at her again. “Me. I just wanted to talk to you, instead all I managed was to make you cry.” A bitter laugh, hissing to themself, “Brilliant.” Staring up at the sky for a moment, “I’m sorry I can’t speak to you like a normal feckin’ person. I’m sorry I made you cry. I’m sorry you’re stuck with me and not... I didn’t mean for any of this to happen. For what it’s fucking worth.” Not much, Abby’d guess, “D’you know the whole ‘they’re mean to you because they like you’ bullshit? It’s crap. It’s feckin’ nonsense.” Instead of flicking their cigarette butt Abby let it incinerate between their fingers. “I’m just shit at being anythin’ other than an asshole. Which...” letting the ash fall between their fingers, “You don’t deserve. So.”
