In TFOTA, Jude always mentioned that she's ashamed of her missing fingertip and the scar on her palm because they remind her of her weakness and mortality.

But when they got married, Cardan slid the wedding ring onto that very finger. The one with the missing tip. And then kissed her palm. Right on the spot with the scar.

It's as if he reassured her in his own way that she no longer has to feel that way and that he, as her husband and partner, is proud of even all the parts of her which she thinks are imperfect.

I reread the Folk of the Air trilogy again yesteray (yes all of them. yes I should have been doing somehting else. I know) and I think that while the romance is like. fine. (it has its moments but also kind of less interesting than other things) Jude’s family relationships, and especially her relationship with Madoc is a (in my opinion) much more compelling part of the books. It’s complicated and fucked up and so interesting.

No offense Cardan, you are a funny little man (a poor little meow meow even) but (spoilers) him turning into a snake for like 3 chapters was so much less emotional than that scene in Queen of Nothing where Madoc almost kills Jude and the fallout. Or generally. The betrayal and antagonism just hits much harder with Jude and Madoc cause that’s her dad and there’s just way more emotional baggage

Finally started reading Shadow and Bone after it being on my TBR list for literally years.

Was having a lovely time reading about Alina and the tall, dark and broody Darkling.

Then BAM!!!

This coming off the back of reading Nevernight, where I also felt the stab of betrayal when my boy Tric got a knife in the gut!!!

Whoever said reading was relaxing clearly doesn't read the books I do!
