are they more likely to choose the favourite food of the crowd rather than their personal fave? will they pick their favourite? are there other factors?

I say that ants would probably be more likely to go with the crowd. And also there MAYYY be other factors- I don't know how ants calculate what food to bring back to their nests or if they have any sense of 'this is more filling, and would be better' but I assume that would be a factor if they DID have that instinct!
