EXHIBITION PLAN ( I have entered this exact article into my PDP blog as well)

Here I have attached the following

1. Exhibition visual - Using photoshop I have drawn a diagram plan of how I would of displayed my installation at the 2020 Colchester school of Art’s Graduate show in the visual I included measurements , and sketch of placement along with a futuristic view as a audience member , I followed this up in my proposal document explaining my plan in more depth.

2. Final Piece Plan- Using photoshop again I drew up a in-depth plan of the mechanics behind the floral ceiling hanging and instructions on how I would put these pieces together to create the final outcome

3. Health and safety sheet- Using the UCC Health and Safety template I made plans for how my installation would be compliant with the following rules to allow for safe mantling and dismantling of my floral hanging .

Health and Safety for working with flowers

I came across this health and safety guide online that business use for there employees for working with flowers reading through it I found a lot of helpful things that I can adapt to my own practice when working with flowers such as 

For florists, the main cause of skin problems is prolonged and frequent wet work. You may suffer from sore, chapped skin or eczema. Bear in mind that skin damage is not only painful, it also looks unsightly. Help prevent damage by

-  drying your hands thoroughly with

a soft cotton or paper towel

-  moisturising after washing your

hands, as well as at the start and end of each day – make sure you don’t miss fingertips, between the fingers and wrists

-  checking regularly for early signs of dermatitis – look out for very dry or chapped skin

-  wearing gloves when possible to protect the skin, not just from routine wet work, but from harmful materials including chemicals, thorns and pesticide residue.

Make sure your tetanus protection is up to date. Roses, for example, are grown in manure-rich soil and tetanus can pass on to you and go into  your bloodstream for example if your were pricked by the thorn pricks.

cuts and scratches  can be part of the job, so make sure you keep plasters in your work space when you’re installing installations and preparing work.

Florists tend to be on their feet for most of the day. Backache, neckache and arm and wrist pains can be common. its a good idea to think about getting shock-absorbing rubber mats to stand on and use a high stool for some of your work to give your legs and feet a break doing this should help prevent aches and pains, There are lots of florist designed gadgets available to ease strain and make work more comfortable, like ergonomic shears or cutting tools. You should also think about posture – for example, simple things like adjusting your stool height to cut down how much awkward twisting or stretching across the counter you have to do, this could apply for when hanging my installation for final exhibition 

Large Floral forms 

After creating my large floral forms  it got me thinking about how I would like to display them as a final piece  I was thinking of a wall installation that is flush towards the wall however I feel the flowers would look better as a ceiling hanging which is something I plan to propose as an exhibition plan as I would like to work with my big floral forms on a big scale , it also made me realise that I wouldn't want my work in the corner of a room and I feel just in this mini mock up it looks to cramped and even though theres good lighting above from the open windows of the conservatory the flowers don't really seem to be looking how I imagined.

I decided to do some visual research into big floral forms and researched my local and go to florist Casey who is based in Crays Hill ,Essex , when I have been creating my smaller floral forms I haven't included any greenery and looking at Casey’s bouquets she includes a lot of greenery which has given me ideas for when I try making bigger floral forms I would also like to try making green buds and even green palm leafs but I will have to think about how I would incorporate these styles of leaves within my floral arrangements.

I really dislike these scans although I thought I would upload these to the blog and explain why , firstly the lid of the scanner was down when these were scanned hence the deathly dark back tone that already clashes with the red and off white tissue paper flowers, as for the flowers themselves they don't hold good form when squished down so much onto the scanner it just looks slap dash and dull , I also don't like the way the red tissue paper scans or the off white flower especially in the right hand side image.

Faig Ahmed

If I was to describe the work of artist Faig Ahmed, I would most likely describe is as surreal in terms of its theme . It is hard not to compare between Ahmed’s melting carpets  and the works of Salvador Dali’s melting clocks . They have the same type of style that blends perspectives and  that asks us to examine what is real and what is not opening up the question of what we know vs what we think we know 

For a bit of background Faig Ahmed was born in 1982 in Sumqayit, Azerbaijan. He works as a  contemporary artist that  integrates the traditional art forms with techniques that are borrowed from the abstract artists from the mid-20th century. Ahmed is a trained artist who graduated from the Azerbaijan State Academy of Fine Arts in Baku in 2004,gaining a degree  in sculptural design.

His early childhood experiences with Persian rugs and carpets were a large part of the world in which he grew up. The carpets and rugs were on the floors and the walls of every room. He always played with the patterns on the rugs ,imagining them as roads, gardens and other inventions of his imagination.

Faig Ahmed is an artist who lives and works in Baku ,Faig had been studying traditional eastern rugs , disassembling their artistic qualities to create contemporary sculpture , the artist uses his computer to make sketches which he then transfers using special paper dot by dot . After the sketches are passed to a carpet make who weaves the carpet using ancient techniques of the region , all thread are dyed with natural colour same as its origin . The Artist is inspired by the process of global construction and happening on the planet .

Faig Ahmed demonstrates how we can bring old traditions into the modern day his work is spontaneous with no original meanings  making them very subconscious , working subconsciously allows him to work with old traditions and break them all at the same time 

What or who were your early influences and how has your life/upbringing influenced your work?

As any other Azeri family we had carpets everywhere – on the floor, on the walls, in each room. I had a carpet in my room, too. I was always playing with the patterns of the carpet imagining there were roads, trees, dragons etc. One day when my parents left for countryside, I decided to change the places of the patterns and cut the carpet into pieces. Of course I never managed to gather the pieces together. I was waiting for my parents to come and punish me, but they didn’t. They just took the carpets away from my room forever.

What advice would you give to an aspiring textile artist?

First tissue paper floral forms of experimentation using a scanner , overall as a starting point I am happy with how these turnt out but they still need perfecting , when showing these to my fellow class mates within my studio presentation I received really positive feedback and people seemed to like the move swirly blurred scans which were achieved by hand rather than the oil paint effect scans created in photoshop , in the feedback I was also advised that my hands within the scans being visible when static did no favours for my work and I agree I feel with the moving scans there a lot more artistic as you can't exactly figure out what exactly the form is completely as you can only see glimpses of it.

Nick Knight 

Nick Knight is a British fashion photographer who had turn’t his lense to flowers within his career photographing flowers in his garden capturing the moments of their life and decay. Knights interest in flowers started in the 1990′s when he started photographing sections of the national history museums pressed flowers from the herbarium library , in his series of photographs he picked flowers from his garden which he arranged under natural day light which allowed him to capture the fragility of the flowers and their life cycle.

his rose painting style photos capture 16th and 17th century still life style and show strong connections to the works of dutch painters such as Jan Van Huysum and Jan Brueghel the elder.

the technique behind capturing the top two photos involved putting photographic paper upside down in the printer ,not allowing the ink to be absorbed by the shiny surface. this then results in a textured representation  that is resembles artistic brushstrokes giving the effect of a painting.

Nick Knight flora exhibition 2012

flora is a project that started in the 90′s , it took him and his wife 3 years to go through the natural history museums archives of botanicals.

his work captures the diversity of plant life in the uk , the artist has removed himself from the work , providing a true and honest document of what he found in the archives 

the artist has considered how each print plays off each other the exhibition is made up on 15 prints , and plays with the muted greens a neon pinks of the orchids 

the artist has also released still lifes with romanticism he achieves his runny photographic form by introducing heat and water into the printing process in  his practice, in the large scale works you are faced with the question of is this a painting ? , is this digitally manipulated ? ...... 

his work creates its own genre between photography and painting.
