Becoming a smart buyer
Disclaimer
Before you even start reading this, keep in mind that this is just a work-flow, I'm not giving you an exact guide of what you should buy nor I feel you should ever follow that advice for the exception of some cases but this is a guide on being smart with your money while finding your style.
Looking good sometimes can be expensive. Maybe it's because of the volume of clothing that we buy just so we can get as many outfits as possible or we can go with brands that are looked at as expensive and just try to get everything from the new collection. This is the wrong way to go.
In these 5 steps, I will show you how to become a more intelligent buyer with your clothes, this will not only help you a few bucks to grab that beer you wanted with your friends but it will also help you care about the world. Not everybody knows that fashion is the second biggest cause of our global warming decay in the last decade. Millions of fabrics are thrown out every day after one use cause Zara and Primark are cheap and "you could just get another one, right?". We can't allow ourselves to fall into this mindset, especially if you're a man.
Let's begin with knowing what you're going to buy. You just can't go to a store and pretend that you will get everything you need and it will suit your style. If you only shop in Zara, you have every 16-25-year-old style. This may be good for someone who isn't bothered by seeing a kid using the same clothes and that other people recognize that you don't really spend time looking after yourself.
Who would you like to look like:
Alright, grab your favorite 3 actors, musicians, or any celebrity which has the style you'd like to be seen as. Some examples are Justin Bieber, Any youtuber, look at what celebrities are wearing. :)
Investigate:
Don't worry if you can't afford the $2,000 jacket that Zac Efron is wearing, think about the options, and ask yourself the following questions:
Do I like the color or the design?
If you like the design, Do you know the name of the design? Look into other options
You like the colors, go to Pinterest, and search "Insert Color" men's fashion. VoilĆ”
By now you should already know what you like or what you would like, now let's talk about business so put that suit on...
Market Research:
There are millions of brands that design the exact same jacket, yeah they might say it's an original design but unless you're shopping by designer, most of the brands have similar patterns and shapes it's just a matter of looking at what's out there. I would recommend using the following:
Google Pictures Search
Looking for the piece and color you want on google and a bunch will appear on the site.
Search for online thrift stores if you're too lazy.
Get those looks:
Look at you, you've not only found your style but saved money in the process, I'm proud of you.
From this point going forward, you have established a guideline for your style and the best thing is you can change it whenever you like. Not into bikers anymore, get that oversized windbreaker with the exact same process ad you will find the one that suits you best.
Donate or Recycle:
Okay people this is super easy, If you live in any big city... You can simply google clothing donation on Google and you'll find a bunch of options. For smaller cities, it's usually in the bad areas of the city, or at least it was growing up in BogotĆ”.
I haven't been there in years so I've missed a bunch of how the country is moving one with the world, but that's a sidebar.
If you can find any, I would go to any foundation and simply donate my clothes to people less fortunate than I am. This probably will be way better than just throwing it away.
Earth is in a critical point right now and we need to be more caring about the spaces we share.
