I'm learning that sometimes 'self love' is 'tough love.' Be open enough with yourself that you can acknowledge the existence of the ugly parts about yourself. The parts you'd rather gloss over. The parts that others notice but, maybe out of respect, fear or lack of care, don't mention. Respect yourself enough to hold yourself accountable. Love yourself enough to want to get to the root of the problem, even when the root is you. Especially when the root is you. Learn to speak to yourself frankly:
"You messed up."
"You hurt others."
"You hurt yourself"
And most importantly "Now that you know that, do what you can to fix it."
