An Education

Luke nodded in agreement, noting the idea of a sitter. Heâd taken notice of some younger heroes around, such as Pixie and Speed, perhaps some ideas for a sitter. Dani rushed over at Ororoâs question and smiled delicately. âNo! Iâve seen a picture though⌠I saw a pig once!â Luke laughed at her response, remembering how giddy she got. He held her hand softly.
âHow about we see this farm, huh?â
Ororo grinned at the little girlâs response, getting down to Daniâs level to speak to her, âWe have pigs too. Â And cows, goats and horses,â she tapped a playful finger on Daniâs nose, âand chickens. Â Sometimes your class gets to go collect the eggs.â Â She straightened and looked to Luke, gesturing with her head to lead him off towards the farm.
âAs far as the farm goes, weâre hoping to reduce our need for canned goods from the old world more and more every year. Â Weâre able to can and preserve our own surplus produce -- but of course thereâs got to be surplus for us to be able to do that. Â So itâs all about making sure that weâre growing enough.â Â She explained as they crossed the grounds. Â It was good to have people understand what your aims are, make sure everybodyâs on the same page. Â âThe cows are a dairy herd, not a beef herd, we donât have those kinds of numbers yet. Â We have the chickens for eggs and meat. Â Goats and sheep give us wool, and milk as well -- baby formula is hard to come by and goats milk is easier on little tummies.â
