blood on your hands
Haven't you had enough of gojo satoru ?
Gojo cares a lot, actually
Perspective and empathy in Jujutsu Kaisen
Once again, I see accusations that Gojo only cared about people in relation to their strength. I can't believe that 236 and 261 haven't put this idea to bed already, but let's go over it again for the class. Here are some thoughts on the importance of perspective and empathy in JJK. Spoilers for chapter 266 ahead!
Some more thoughts about Gojo and empathy
I'm reblogging the original iteration of this post as it feels more pertinent to the point I want to make, but please see here for the very worthwhile additions about this topic in relation to Yuji and Megumi!
On my travels through the fandom over the last three years, it hasn't been uncommon at all to stumble across assessments of Gojo as having "low empathy". You only need to look at the timestamp on my post above to know how long discussions related to this matter have been taking place (and how long I've felt the same compulsion to chip in with my two cents)! Whether Gojo has sympathy and/or empathy and/or compassion for others is one of the most persistent arguments in the JJK fandom in many ways, but I digress.
I have always felt it's kindest and safest to talk about this in my own space. I don't want to suggest anyone is right or wrong about a topic which is, frankly, very poorly understood. I certainly don't want to ruin anyone else's fandom fun by inserting myself into their conversations, but I do feel the strong desire to present an alternative argument because, in many ways, this isn't just fandom fun.
Of course, we can have a discussion about how "low empathy" is usually wrongly equated to "bad person" in society, but I think that's only scratching the surface of the problem. I think we can dig deeper by interrogating this supposedly universal notion of "empathy" to see who it actually serves, because it's entirely possible that the concept of "low empathy" only exists within a neurotypical framework.
Personally, I'm very persuaded by the theory of the "double empathy problem". In short, it proposes that while autistic people may struggle to understand and empathise with non-autistic people, the opposite is also true — i.e. non-autistic people can actually appear to have "low empathy" to autistic people.
For now, the double empathy problem theory only applies to autistic people. It's still very new in the grand scheme of autism research, but it's rapidly gaining support and even the guy who created the "empathy quotient" has acknowledged it. Regardless, this does tell us one thing: we clearly still have a lot to learn about empathy.
As for my personal opinion? I think Gojo has plenty of the stuff (and compassion, as pointed out in the replies to this post). It just doesn't look the way empathy (neuro)typically looks, because there's nothing (neuro)typical about Gojo Satoru.
Simply put, I believe there are more options on the table besides "has empathy" and "doesn't have empathy". Thus, instead of "high" and "low", I want to propose "different".
Gojo has different empathy.
smth i wish more ppl would include when talking abt geto’s envy towards gojo is that he literally felt like he was being left behind by his best friend, and not just the fact that geto felt like gojo could accomplish things that he could not as the “strongest”.
not only that, but isolation from others was one of geto’s biggest contributions to his spiral/downfall. isolation from all of his friends, but gojo especially. and as gojo grew to be “the strongest” individually rather than alongside geto, geto lost that pillar; and then, naturally, every other pillar had to come falling down, too.

Right sensei ?
“Do it scared” “do it alone” are all great tips, but my biggest takeaway from therapy is do it messy. This is especially true if you’re getting out of a burnout, which I experience often. Literally just do it messy. You don’t need to pick the perfect trail to walk, the perfect playlist to listen to, whatever the fuck it is. You don’t need to have a meticulous to do list and wake up at the exact time you planned and drink the exact amount of water you planned to drink. Like the biggest thing for people like me to remember is sometimes it’s okay to do it messy. Put on a random yt workout and just get it done in sweats. Do 5 minutes of a daunting task and go from there. Sometimes just getting up is a win during intense burnouts or depressive funks. Literally just do it messy.
