I commented this on someone's edit on TikTok but GODS to I love 33 1/3 Per Monkees.

It works so well as a prelude to the series and sets up why the show is not only episodic, but the day/adventures can restart. (as seen in Monkees in Paris and Head) Not only were the characters forcibly remolded into something else, but were forced to be the "fake" band we know and love today. Like in the line from Ditty Diego War Chant "A Manufactured Image, with no philosophies!".

This Movie is the manufacturing of the characters and starting off lack of philosophy. As Well as bringing together the many aspects of mind control or just overall control we see throughout the show (Head, The Frodis Caper, The Monkees Watch Their feet, ect...) It also shows us why the characters want to get out of The Box in Head, besides the uptake in weird adventures, obviously. The showverse characters were people outside the show somewhere before getting kidnapped into the tubes and the show. This in particular explains why The Monkees have foggy memories sometimes when it comes to their childhoods! (ie; Davy's many familial homes/Micky not remembering where he heard the intro tune of Circus boy from/Mike saying "these are my people" in the episode taking place in appalachia when Mike is Texan/ Peter never really mentions his childhood from what I remember at least)

Speaking of Peter, It ties him further to the Renaissance. Which is very interesting to me personally. As Peter is incredibly tied to that time period but I don't see it brought up ever. Besides I Prithee Do Not Ask For Love Once More, The fairytale episode connects him to the time period. As well as his love for the arts and the appreciation for knowledge and philosophy that we see in Head. Maybe I'll do something about that when I post next (thats a lie, next post is a present for a certain syd barrett lover ;]).
