unfortunately this is true for almost every “merit” based industry in america, including fine art and the design world.

starting my period and on the verge of tears thinking about what life would have been like if i’d had the thick skin, bravery, hungry personality, and resources to become a professional painter. sometimes i wonder if i took the coward’s way out but most of the time i tell myself that it would not have worked out bc i was not born in a certain situation and didn’t go (would not have gotten into) certain grad schools.

art is so insufferable and stupid whereas design is so crucial and necessary but i miss the play and risk taking with making art. i’ve convinced myself i have nothing to say but not being heard does make me unhappy. I made a lot of bad art when I was younger, just trying things. I was brave then. some of it was good, too but most of it was bad. One painting was brilliant. I don’t even know where it is now.

It feels kind of lame to talk about this when theres so many worse things happening to so many people in the world but it’s the truth.
