the smell of the sweet carrot cake flooded my sense of smell as i cleaned up the messes in the kitchen. my father had left to go to more rabbit holes, he’s rarely home.

this day feels odd, i know something is going to happen but im not completely sure what. maddox hatter has returned from the isle recently so almost everyone has been on edge. but at least i have pink, she’s my best friend we’ve known each other practically since birth.

just then i felt something in my chest something is wrong with pink. “no” i breathe out.i start frantically searching around for a way to contact pink. my ring is flashing pink, she’s definitely going through something.

i quickly get dressed sliding the fitted white long sleeve over my torso. once my shoes are on i’m out the door and the fresh scent of greenery fills my senses as i make my way to the rabbit hole to auradon. as soon as i get there i see pinks sister, red and shortly after pink and some other people i guess ive never met before.

“pink what happened?” i asked frantically. “i’m ok it’s my mom, maddox hatter captured her she’s trapped and we need to find a way to the castle.” she explains quickly.

i nod clearly seeing this is urgent then i spot someone. max? isn’t he maddox’s son? why is he with them? can we trust him? so many questions filled up my brain but now isn’t the time to ask.

“oh! y/n this is luis madrigal, hazel hook, felix facillier, robby hood, chloe charming, and squeaky and squirmy smee, and guys this is my best friend y/n.” again this was explained quickly. “i’ll try to remember that i guess?”

pink and everyone started walking so of course i followed them into the gardens where the beautiful flamingo flower statues and the moving mushrooms are. max, hazel and felix are laughing about something but i feel something watching us.

it’s just a feeling. there’s likely nothing then the bright pink on the flowers on the flamingos start turning a dark eerie purple releasing a similar color smoke.

“everyone run!” red yells. of course everyone being scared shitless runs while the flamingos chase after us occasionally hitting things on the way and blowing into a puff of smoke. eventually max of all people find a small house and as we’re about to close the door a flamingo nearly gets in. god can this day get anymore confusing? luckily he slammed the door hard enough it blew into purple petals.

the house started to distort and move in unnatural ways… max must’ve set a trap. we all run through the house and i nearly fall and to my surprise the person catching me was… max? he holds onto the side of my torso a bit to long before shaking his head slightly and we continue running until we get locked in a small room with walls that are closing in.

“ok pink what is going on!?” i ask frantically while trying to help keep the walls from closing in on us. before she can even respond luis grabs red and takes her back out the door causing use to lose the main strength we had and the walls close in. instead of being well, dead we land in a pit of pumpkin like fruits. maybe luis was the one who trapped us? god i don’t know what im thinking max is literally maddox’s son.

“wait where’s red?” i ask looking around. “i’m not sure but im sure she’ll find us.” pink says. as i go to sit down on a pumpkin like thing in this field i nearly fall and of all people…max catches me? what the actual hell. i realize my hands are on his shoulders and i pull my arms away as if burned and i stand up fully.

pink just stares. great just amazing. just in that moment she grabs my arm and pulls me behind a tree. “hi?” i say quietly. “what was that?” she asks. “it wasn’t anything i promise he was just helping me” pink just stares for a second then walks away but not after scoffing. whatever.

red and luis show up and red has pinks shoe in her hand “see told you were in the right place” red says as pink runs to grab her shoe “ah! you found it”. luis goes over near a tree and chloe goes over to red. i wanted to know what they were talking about because chloe seemed pretty upset. chloe pulls out a knife and looks up at a tree branch with a robotic dodo bird is.

“i think we should open it and reprogram it so it can watch out for it” chloe says matter of fact. “well max probably knows more about these things maddox is his father after all” red replies. “well i think we should destroy it so it can potentially get reprogrammed again.” max says.

everyone agrees except chloe and you can tell she was pretty upset red chose what max said over her. after walking for a while we all start talking about needing a place to sleep for the night. pink leads us to a lumeria tree with a table and places to sit. as everyone sits down the seats where pink, red, chloe, and luis are sitting are full and the only seat that was open was by maddox. i’m starting to trust him little by little.

i reluctantly sit by him but i’m on the edge of my seat as far away as possible. “you can scoot closer you know?” he whispers so quietly i nearly don’t hear it. i just look at him then roll my eyes “fine” i scoot a bit closer and our shoulders touch. both of our breaths hitch. great.

i do my best to zone out but all of a sudden luis and hazel are arguing. all the “im better!” “no im better” is going in through one ear and out the other. this is stupid. they’re acting like kids.

the arguing continues for a good few minutes until red says “whoo! another VK win!”. everyone starts cheering and whooping and then pink looks…upset. “are you kidding me? you’re siding with them? with him?” she says while looking at max. “he could be in on this with his dad for all me know. look i may be the little sister but at least im brave enough to say what everyone is thinking.” hazel steps forward but max reaches his hand out stop her.

“i thing that’s my que to leave” max says then walks off. red goes up to pink clearly upset about what she had said to max “pink you shouldn’t have said that” pink pushes red and walks away from red. “you should talk to max, red,” i say quietly. “yeah”. as she’s about to leave chloe walks up to red and that’s my que to go somewhere else.

i want to find max and see if he’s ok. every part of me is saying i should let him be but i want to see him. i decide to look for him and eventually find him sitting on a rock. “hey.” i say quietly. “hi”. “im sorry about what pink said, she’s never been the type to say stuff like that.”. he just nods “it’s fine it’s a reoccurring thing, do something and someone doesn’t trust you or even if your parents do something they don’t trust you, and they think i’m the same as my dad.”. i lay my head on his shoulder and he tenses up and after a few seconds he relaxes.

we stay like that until red comes over “i’ll let you guys talk”. i get up and walk to wear in gonna be resting and lay down. i really hope max is ok, he seemed hurt by what pink said. once im finally settled down felix and robbie come back from where they were and hug everyone and complain about where they were. i didn’t want to be involved so i pretended to sleep.
