I saw people in the comments going “oh they switched personalities for this one” but I don’t think that’s true at all. I think this is a difference of how okay they are at being bad at something/not being able to figure something out.

Lando is a competitive little shit, and will do anything he can to win any challenge or competition, but this wasn’t a competition. Lando settled quickly with knowing he wouldn’t be able to solve it, so instead he decided to make something artful. Lando usually thrives and goes more quiet and focused when doing artsy things, seemingly very content.

Oscar on the other hand doesn’t mind losing random challenges. He does, however, not like being bad at something. We see him often making something funny and really not trying at all to be artistic during challenges like that, because he knows he’s not good at it, so he doesn’t even try. When it comes to logic and thinking though, he’s more keen to prove himself. Quizzes and trivia is where he seems to care the most. Oscar is presented with the cube and he feels like he should be able to figure it out, but he can’t, so that makes him sassy and irritated. Had it been an art challenge he just wouldn’t have cared and not tried.

I know we all joke but genuinely McLaren do the least PR w landoscar they’ve ever done and also do way less than most other teams and they actually don’t do any damage control PR it’s only ever things they’ve filmed already and were scheduled to release anyway

like for me landoscar has always been the ways they don’t do any of the typical teammate behavior or relationship development or fan relations (and I love those too don’t get me wrong !!) it’s so unique that they learn all these little things about each other but won’t queerbait and they say how they want to grow old together but they don’t make it a meme and they treated the title fight with such honesty and fairness and consideration for each other but didn’t sell that hard to Netflix

all my rpf ships are normally the combination of real life friendship but also some pandering to fans and also convenience of work friendships and combining socmed duties with fun etc

but landoscar are their own entire separate thing where they’re wildly NOT bland work only relationship and lmao they sure as shit aren’t “PR” considering they openly hate playing up to the cameras and fans and they don’t let anyone in on when they play padel or cross socialize etc but also they don’t hide the intricate subtle shifts and developments in their relationship at all and don’t wear masks in public

it adamantly does not appeal at all to wider fandom or media and barely even to their joint sponsors (ily Hilton tho u get it) but also it has such a surprisingly huge fanbase that’s so prolific and active but also doesn’t have anyone trying to erase Lily or pretend that Oscar and Lando don’t have these often very distinct and opposite social lives and in fact we revel in it bc that’s part of their charm and it’s also part of why they slot together so well bc in so many ways they’re similar and even their friends are similar but then party boy Lando can fill the entire Silverstone weekend while Oscar quietly watches from the background smiling bc he’s known this Lando since before they were teammates and Oscar does the boring sponsor stuff with Zak and Lando does the fun sponsor stuff with Zak like
