So many fandoms it is actually unfortunate

Got inspired to do this after my post about Thorn.

I like the idea of Thorn getting over her aggression issues for the sake of being a good Queen, but they still come out in more trivial situations.

It's like the old wisdom: You can't drop a habit without replacing it with a different one.

Headcanon time:

In terms of culinary culture, I imagine Skywings have a strong preference for intense and somewhat bitter flavor profiles. Roasting, charring, and smoking are all very common ways of food preparation up there, and overdoing it is preferable to underdoing it.

If you rolled up in a food wagon in their kingdom and started selling smash burgers... well first you would have a hard time getting the thing up the mountains, but once you're set up, you'd be good for the rest of your life.

On the flipside, very bland or particularly sweet flavors are mostly frowned upon. There is a bit of a stigma among Skywing warriors that sweets are for peacocks and dandies who cannot fight and are only good for squatting in the palace and kissing up to the Queen. While it is acceptable to eat fruit if you're holed up somewhere and it's the only thing you can get, you are expected to make a face and complain about it. If you don't, you will be seen as a fruit-eater, and fruit-eaters make poor warriors.

Carnelian secretly loves sweets (many Skywings do), but pretends that she doesn't because she is young and insecure about her reputation. If you were to leave something sweet where she can get it, she will be tempted to indulge, but only if she thinks she can get away with it undiscovered. Expect furious denial if caught, and threats and insults if you persist in pressing her about it.

Once something sweet has found its way into her mouth, she tends to lose all ability to moderate herself. If it's a beverage, she will drink the entire thing in one gulp, then put as much distance between herself and the empty glass as possible and pretend she is unaware of it.

Carnelian perceives herself as very sly and stealthy about this habit, but Moonwatcher generally notices every time it happens. Kinkajou thinks all of this is extremely funny.

Tangentially related, but Skywings have invented coffee. They habitually roast everything, and coffee is just roasted beans dissolved in water, so this is no big surprise. They tend to drink it black (Kestrel was a big coffee drinker, as was Glory because it helped her stay awake and study longer). An ancient Mudwing minister once greatly offended a visiting Skywing envoy by offering them coffee with cream in it. Of course this nearly resulted in a war.

TRANSCRIPT:

Winter: "Pardon? I was informed that you are the one in charge here?" Winter: "Hello? Seawing?" Tsunami: "YES! WHAT IS IT?" Tsunami: "Ah! You’re, uh… Winter, from the Jade Winglet, right?" Winter: "Yes, I am PRINCE Winter and I would like to file a complaint. Urgently." Tsunami: "Yeah? Shoot." Winter: "Well, a rogue Sandwing seems to have invaded my sleeping quarters." Tsunami: "Oh? That doesn't sound good. Did they do anything?" Winter: "Where do I even begin!?! I cannot get it to leave me in peace! The noises that come out of it while it sleeps are unbearable, and the ones during the day are even WORSE somehow! And yesterday that barbarian devoured my toiletries." Tsunami: "Oh, that sounds… Hey, wait a minute! This isn't about a rogue Sandwing! You're talking about your clawmate, aren't you? Nice try, but he's supposed to be there!" Winter: "Yes, that’s the problem I’m complaining about! The arrangement is thoroughly unreasonable! I request an immediate change!" Winter: "See, I believe there was a sort of mistake. I am an Icewing Prince, I really ought to have my own accommodations. Away from the common masses and any disgracious, sand-based reprobates therein. Could you arrange that for me?" Tsunami: "Let me think about this for a moment."

Tsunami: "Hmm, well, … considering that… and…" Tsunami: "No." Winter: "P-pardon me?" Tsunami: "The rules of this school were clearly laid out before your queen signed the agreement, Winter. They are not negotiable. We're breaking down walls here, and the clawmate system is a part of that." Winter: "What is this condescending tone you direct at me!?? You may be Seawing royalty, but your impertinence defies my understanding!" Tsunami: "Oh, you didn’t understand it? Let me spin it into a few different phrases for you, so you can pick the one you like best."

Tsunami: "NOOOO WAAAAY!" Tsunami: "NAW! NADA! NEGATIVE!" Tsunami: "YOUR REQUEST IS SUMMARILY DENIED!" Tsunami: "THE SANDWING STAYS WHERE HE IS!" Tsunami: "YOU BETTER GET COMFY!" Tsunami: "CAUSE YOU’LL BE BESTIES IN NO TIME!" Tsunami: "And sorry about the, what, brushes? We'll have those replaced, probably." Tsunami: "Now, I hope that helped resolve the issue for you. If you have any other problems, let me know!"

So when he turns a corner and suddenly spots some big critter on the wall with way too many legs, I don't see him screaming for joy. If I remember right he was also having a hard time with all the crawlies in the rainforest, especially some centipede thing crawling on his face while Deathbringer was sitting on him.

I guess because of all that, I picture him as a bit of an arachnophobe.

Would you believe me if I told you I've been wanting to make this comic for two years now? I've occasionally been talking to my friends about it. Like, I'd say "maybe I should do spider comic soon". Well, I suppose it has finally happened. I hope you enjoy spider comic.
