Why Vampires?

Ever since I was young, I've had a guilty obsession with vampires. Whether it was me pretending playing with my friends at recess, begging my mom to let me watch My Babysitter's a Vampire, or having my local librarian search for a special edition paper copy of Twilight: New Moon, the obsession has followed me everywhere I go.

Based in Providence, Rhode Island.

Why?

The late 19th century (1880–1920) saw a massive wave of European immigration to the U.S.

Most immigrants were from Southern, Eastern, and Central Europe: Italians, Poles, Russians, Romanians, and others.

Immigrants often arrived via major ports like Boston or New York, but Providence had its own active port on the Seekonk River for both commercial and passenger shipping.

Many of these people were seeking economic opportunity, political freedom, or escaping turbulence at home (wars, revolutions, famine).

Historical mansions like The Hamilton House (College Hill), built in the 19th century, were perfect for discreetly establishing “old European” presence.

1890's

Aristocratic vampire families fleeing Wallachian or Moldavian political upheaval, declining nobility, or rival clans.

They would travel discreetly to Providence via rail or riverboats, avoiding large cities to preserve secrecy.

Blend into society through cultural influence, philanthropy, and social connections.
