Norm Breyfogle's Batman tenure extended from 1988 until 1993, during which time he was the main artist on Detective Comics, then Batman and finally Batman: Shadow Of The Bat, which he helped launched in 1992. Alongside Scottish writer Alan Grant, Breyfogle co-created notable adversaries like The Ventriloquist & Scarface, Anarky and Mr. Zsasz, and helped develop the third Robin, Tim Drake. 

Having been one of the regular Batman artists when I started reading comics, Breyfogle has always been one of my very favorite interpreters of the character. A lot of than has to do with his amazingly fluid illustration style and his mastery of facial expressions, both of which are evident in the page below:

After penciling the first three chapters of the Knightfall storyline, Breyfogle left the Batbooks in the early 90's to help launch Malibu Comics' Ultraverse line, where he co-created the title Prime. He's worked in comics sporadically since, including some recent work on the Batman Beyond comic. 

Sadly, this past week it was reported that Breyfogle has suffered a major stroke, and has no health insurance to help cover the costs.
