(Don’t worry, questions about autism won’t ever bother me, haha)

When I said it’s possible that Mello could be autistic too, I mainly meant that there isn’t necessarily something that speaks against it. And even though a lot of us are very visibly autistic/neurodivergent, there are lots of symptoms that are basically invisible if you don’t know someone well. So there’s that.

If we’re talking about headcanons (not about the intentions of the creators), it’s pretty much impossible to disprove that a fictional character could be autistic. I certainly don’t ever feel the need to do that, even when I don’t see them that way at all.

That being said, Mello does have some characteristics associated with autism:

the most obvious one would be the fact that we only ever see him eating chocolate (= samefooding)

(also the way he often methodically licks it before he eats it, haha)

kid!Mello seemed to dislike shoes (just like L and Near)

I’m pretty sure it’s just his personal style, but there are many autistic people who only want to wear certain materials/have a strong preference for certain materials - that would be mainly eather in his case - and/or colours

later he always wears gloves, and there could be lots of reasons for that, but many of us hate to touch things/people directly, so him wearing gloves could be interpreted that way, probably + there’s the fact that he also often holds things in an unusual way

it wouldn’t surprise me if he had an extremely high pain tolerance with what he goes willingly through

his angry outbursts (that’s unfortunately something many of us struggle with)

his unusual facial expressions

I guess he has empathy issues

and - again, like L and Near - he has his preferred sitting position:
