There are many ways to style curly hair. This tutorial comes from curly headed blogger, Stars for Streetlights. Although this way might take a decent chunk of time to execute, the results are long lasting, natural looking, gorgeous curls.

Make sure to use hydrating shampoo, conditioner, leave in conditioner, mousse, gel/cream, and hairspray to end up with her look.

Moroccan Oil is a go to product company for girls with untamed curly locks. Their shampoos and conditioners hydrate the hair and leave it extremely soft and shiny. Their curl mousses and creams are also perfect for defining a curl without weighing your hair down too much.

I know Valentine's day has passed, but I'm feeling the love today!

Dry shampoo might be the greatest gift your hair has ever received.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, it's time to PAY ATTENTION.

We know that washing our hair every single day is terrible for it. It rids your hair of necessary oils and who honestly has the time to wash-dry-style every day?

Florida is hot, we go to the gym, and we're modern women with plenty of places to be and barely any time to get there.

Hair can get a little scary 2-3 days in, so what do you do if you're late to work or for dinner plans maybe? DRY SHAMPOO!

There are a few options when it comes to the waterless revamping of your lovely locks.

1. CHEAP: The tried and true Batiste is cheap and available at your neighborhood Sally's Beauty Supply. I've used this stuff for years and it does the trick for the right price. Beware my dark haired beauties, this stuff can sometimes leave your hair looking a little dull, so use their special dark haired formula, a shine spray on top or try one of my other suggestions below.

2. BEST: Klorane Dry Shampoo is the best that I've tried. It's pricey, around $18 at Ulta, but it's going to the job better than the others. Klorane is natural, smells amazing, and won't leave your hair looking DULL like other options will. It's also perfect for DARK HAIR. No white residue for us!

3. DIY: Homemade dry shampoo is pretty easy to make for girls on a strict budget. There are many ways to do it, and different ingredients to add depending on your hair type and color.

Best for Blondes: Straight baby powder or equal parts baby powder mixed with baking soda.

Best for Brunettes: Try substituting half or all of the baking soda with cocoa powder instead.

Best Fragrance: When making the mixture, add a drop of your favorite essential oil, shake thoroughly, and let it stand 24 hours before applying.

Best Natural: Substitute oatmeal for baby powder and mix with baking soda or finely ground almonds.

Best for Shine: Add powdered milk instead of baking soda for lovely luster!

Now that you have your dry shampoo of choice. How are you supposed to take this limp, oily hair and turn it into fresh, first day hair?

If you're spraying, keep the can about 10-15 inches away from your scalp and lightly spray at your roots. Begin to massage the shampoo into your scalp with your fingers. Wait a couple minutes for your hair to dry, comb through and style accordingly!

If you've made the mixture yourself, rub it at the scalp where you need to soak up oil and dirt. Let it sit for a couple minutes, comb or brush the mixture out, and style as usual.

Our first hair tutorial comes from youtuber, Lilith Moon. This tutorial can teach you springy adorable curls or how to get those vintage smooth waves without HEAT or much effort on your part. 

We all spend so much time getting ready to go out. We bust out blow dryers, flat irons, rollers, curling wands, curling irons, teasing combs, round brushes, serums and anything else we never have time to do before work. 

BUT FOR WHAT? We look lovely at dinner, but 3 minutes after ordering the first vodka cranberry, we are a sweaty, frizzy MESS. All of that work and time for nothing. Time to bust out the hair ties. This artfully crafted mop is going up!

Ladies, let's try something else. How about a sophisticated pony? Avoid the crazy amounts of wasted time and disappointment by sweeping that hair off your neck before you leave home in anticipation for hot, humid weather inside that club.

We all have those days where your hair's only option is to go up. Whether it be no time for washing, drying, straightening, etc., there is always that moment when you look in the mirror and the sad, lifeless, greasy mop on your head just isn't going to cut it today.

So every Thursday, we have a quick fix for you. We'll post short, easy tutorials for creative, trendy and QUICK hairstyles for you to add to your repertoire.

We’re all tempted at one time or another to brighten up our looks with a crazy color in our hair. Acting upon these temptations is generally happens more in our youth, often with a couple of boxes of kool-aid. 

Well if you’re like me and nervous about the permanence of wacky colors in your hair,The Beauty Department has a solution for you. Soft chalk pastels! 

Twist the hair as you chalk. The texture from twisting makes the chalk release more pigment.

Always brush the excess powder out after chalking each piece.

If you’re blonde or you have blonde tips, DO NOT wet your hair before chalking. I will stain if you do because adding water to pure pigment creates a real dye. If you’re okay with the staining for several washes then go for it! If you’re looking to do color for the day, do not add water at any time.

If your hair color is anything darker than blonde and you don’t have blonde tips, you’ll NEED the water. Doubling the pigment is what will help the colors to show up on darker hair. Mist a little water on the strand with a spray bottle, then chalk it up! It won’t stain darker hair the same way it will on lighter hair.

Red heads– try it without water and if it’s just not showing up, add a little water. It just depends on how light or dark your red is.

Use only “soft pastels”. THESE are our all time faves. Senellier brand pastels have the brightest and most intense pay off we’ve ever seen… and we’ve tried a lot. They’re nearly $4 per piece at Blick, which seems a little expensive, but so is hair color– and hair color removal. Regular chalk doesn’t work the same. It’s harder to transfer and getting it to stick to your hair can be virtually impossible.

Soft chalk pastels can be found at any major art store. Just don’t get “soft chalk” pastels confused for oil pastels. If you’re confused, ask a sales person. Removing oil pastels would be a nightmare, not to mention, they’d feel very sticky.

Try doing 2 colors on one strand! Really fun and looks tie-dyed!

Always use a robe or cape and lay something down on the floor to catch the chalk dust that falls off. This stuff gets EVERYWHERE!

It will get on your clothes during the day, so try and wear something close to the color you’re sporting.

Doing updos with chalked hair is ideal because you won’t get as much on your outfit. 

Before you shower, brush with a soft, natural hair brush get out as much pigment as you possibly can! It should come off almost all the way with brushing. 

Don't chalk your hair too often. At the end of the day, you’re using powder pigment on the ends of your hair and that can suck up a lot of natural moisture that you need in the ends of your hair.

Shampoo your hair with a clarifying shampoo after chalking. Soft chalk pastels use “gum arabic” as a binder. It’s a very very small amount and totally natural, but it’s made from a tree sap so it’s really important to get it all out.

Conditioning treatment is a MUST after you wash out your chalk. Replenish the moisture that may get sucked out with chalking.
