Mysterio has always been one of my favorite Spider-Man villains, so I was really excited when Hasbro announced a new one was coming. Too bad they single packed him for no good reason and he was incredibly hard to find because of that. I bought mine on ebay loose. When I got him in the mail, the barbell in his hip was just rolling around in the crotch. It’s not loose, but it’s still really weird to move. I was somewhat disappointed. I tried fixing it but short of cracking the figure apart, there was nothing I could do. I also transplanted the dome from movie Mysterio. I didn’t like how transparent the regular helmet was. I really oughta clean the glue from around the collar out but otherwise I think this does make the figure look a lot better. I also like how it allows you to display the alternate head with the cape still on.
Overall, Hasbro made some really weird choices with this figure that held it back a fair bit. I still like it, I’m really happy to have a Mysterio in my collection, but it’s a little unfortunate he didn’t turn out as well as he could have and he was so dang hard to find. Thankfully, the upcoming retro cardback rerelease seems to fix most of these issues while also throwing more paint on the figure.
