So today my mom scheduled a hair appointment for herself. The last few months I've been wanting to cut a couple inches of my hair off, because for one thing I'm just bored with it but also I felt like everyone has long hair so if I want to cut my hair short then it would be a good change for me. (Keep in mind I've had long hair that reaches to my butt for 3 years.) Being too scared to have such a drastic change, I needed to be pushed into it. So this morning I asked my mom if there was an open spot for me to JUST get a trim. As I casually walked into the hair salon, I had no idea that in the next 3 minutes things were about to get crazy. I told my stylist that I wanted to cut it but I was too nervous. Quickly, she ran to her desk and grabbed scissors. Frantic and extremely confused, I watched as she measured off about 6 inches with her fingers. Calmly she asked "is this good?" With which I responded with "Umm idk I want to...." *snip* And it was done. I stood there in shock as my hands quickly covered my mouth. And that's when I thought I was going to burst into tears. (Now I know you're probably thinking about now "really crying over a haircut?" But yes, I was most definitely about to cry over something that I had been used to for 3 years.) For what seemed like forever, I stood, as still as a rock looking at a foot of my hair gone. Suddenly I heard the laughter and saw the smiles of many customers who had just witnessed a shocking scene. I turned to the mirror in a jerking fashion. "I knew you wouldn't have done it if I wouldn't have pushed you to it," said my stylist with a huge grin. Flash forward to 20 minutes later: I stood up as I felt the warm, freshly straightened hair fall on my shoulders. Looking in the mirror, I realized something. Yes this is a huge change for me, yes it will take some getting used to, and yes it will grow back. But one thing stuck out. I just conquered something that I had been avoiding for several years. Although I needed someone to motivate me to just do it, I made a change. Change is good my friends. Whether it's moving schools, making new friends, changing your style, or simply cutting your hair, change is healthy. So my point in this whole cheesy, lame, stupid story about me getting my hair cut is that no matter how scary change is or what other people might think, don't fear it because in the end, it will only make things better. Don't change because society tells you to, change for the bettering of yourself from your decision to do so.
