Other than era, there are first, class distinctions then, time and place/event distinctions. A more well off guy would pay attention to fashion trends (fit/cut, accessories, colours, etc.) and what is appropriate to wear to certain occasions (black/white tie, city vs country, etc.) and the seasons. A guy who is paycheque to paycheque would probably own like one or two plain dark coloured suits and a pair of basic dark shoes. (also depending on age of person and attitude, but those are just personal factors. like, think of dandies)

A general rule of thumb I go by for waistcoats is that they're cut and button high (compared to modern day) except for in white/black tie. Evening wear for both men and women are more showy (moreso women obv). For general fit rule- bottoms (trousers/skirts/etc.) start at the natural waist (high waisted).

oh my god please do not put a victorian/edwardian guy in mid rise trousers. and no zippers on clothes until like the 20s. Even then, it was mostly on children's clothes to start.

it’s an idea I’ve had in my head for a couple years now. I haven’t developed it much, so it’s been kinda growing with me as time passes. I don’t have an ao3 (I don't write) and I don’t exactly plan on drawing out the whole thing so, sorry vmv

It started off as simple “asryas divorce” where Naruhodou's kinda mean and Asougi is moping about it, but admittedly it was lame and ooc lmfao. Where it’s at now, there’s a seven year gap between them, a copycat Professor at large, and Asougi experiences head trauma induced amnesia again. Asougi discovers and rediscovers aspects about himself and Naruhodou as they reunite under unusual circumstances.

I've been fiddling with the timeline, but it's currently 1900 to 1909. Their reasons for the gap is "work" and "personal affairs". But really, there's a lot of unresolved issues between them, so it's hard to talk it out in just letters and such. Naruhodou leaves attorney work be a private detective after working with the JP government for several years (1900(?)-1906). Asougi's been slowly overworking himself, mostly for personal reasons, says he "works better under pressure" (a lie). The serial killer pops up one day and over the course of a couple years and more deaths, they've eluded the law (1903-1906). Asougi is assigned to the case after several passing of hands. The killer goes into hiding then reappears in 1909. After the most recent kill, Asougi is given a deadline of three months (unsure if I'm keeping this, but it could be a personal deadline). Asougi finally reaches out to Naruhodou for help (he agrees to help) then plans are arranged for his trip and stay in London. During the period awaiting his arrival (like 20-30 days), Asougi gets into an accident and experiences amnesia again lol.

The story is more of a character study, so the serial killer plot point isn't the main point of it. I also want to factor in domestic and relevant global events but it's a lot of research lol. They're not too far off from WWI, so if it helps the story, I might mess around with the timeline again.
