I have seen in many places that Moon Jo is described to be obsessed about Jung Woo. Many say Moon Jo has a giant crush on Jung Woo, he’s in love with Jung Woo, he’s horny for Jung Woo and that’s why he is obsessed. While it’s true that Moon Jo is in fact in love with Jung Woo, that is NOT the reason why he is obsessed.
Few things I would like to point out here. Moon Jo said “I like you” to Jung Woo but he never really pushed Jung Woo to like him back. He tried to bond with Jung Woo, he tried to be close to Jung Woo but Moon Jo is never “WHY WON’T YOU LIKE ME BACK ?????” He is perfectly aware how Jung Woo is and he loves him that way regardless.
Then what is the reason for such devilish obsession ? That’s very different than his own feelings towards Jung Woo. Moon Jo himself lives in a situation that is suffocating to him. He has been living like that since sooooooo long. He’s suffocated. He needs to get out of there and be free. He has never been free ever since he came to the orphanage. But Eom Bok Soon certainly has enough power so she can cause serious damage to Moon Jo. She obviously has various connections given her charity work etc and she can blackmail Moon Jo and cause other problems. So Moon Jo needed a master plan. A plan to kill everyone off without Bok Soon and other Edenites being aware of it or them becoming alert about it. For that he needed a partner. Someone who is psychologically similar to him. Someone who has similar instincts, similar mentality. Not a flop, not some copycat, not a betrayer, not some regular psychopath or sociopath. He needed someone who is the similar type of firestorm as he himself is.
He tried that with Ki Hyuk but then he realized, he won’t be that helpful. He and Moon Jo do not have similar fire in them. Even though there was potential, at the end it wasn’t meant to be. Hence, he’s a flop.
Enters Yoon Jung Woo. A person who is very much psychologically similar to Moon Jo and who has same fire in him. This is what is needed for the master plan. It’s similar to Jurassic Park. If you have seen Jurassic Park 1993 movie, you would probably remember the Velociraptors. One raptor distracted while the other killed. It was a teamwork. That is what Moon Jo needed. One person to distract and make sure Bok Soon, twin or nambok don’t suspect anything and another person to kill. Without Jung Woo, that master plan would not have been successful. But Moon Jo is hell bent on making it successful. He’s THAT desperate. Hence he cannot let Jung woo go. So as Jung Woo decided to leave Eden and go back to his hometown, Moon Jo became desperate and obsessed. It’s not just feelings or sexual desire or jealousy or love. It’s much deeper than that.
This is precisely why, up until a certain point, Moon Jo didn’t reveal ANYTHING. He appeared as if he’s going along with Bok Soon’s plan. He blended in with other killers. Like a tiger in a pack of hyenas. Both have stripes so the tiger could remain hidden. Up until he was in a position to pounce. He revealed his actual plan while Jung Woo was tied in 4th floor.
Moon Jo gave a condition “I’ll let you live, if you kill everyone else outside”. That is the plan …. That has been the plan all along. That has been the endgame all this time. Moon Jo to guide his partner, Moon Jo to distract Bok Soon while the other would kill. He couldn’t let the opportunity go away. He has waited long enough. That’s where the obsession comes from.
Moon Jo definitely fell in love with Jung Woo, but that was an accident. That was not planned or expected at all. Moon Jo never expected to fall for his artwork like that. His obsession doesn’t come because of his romantic feelings either. But heart has its own mind. So he fell. He fell hard. It was meant to be. There are things that are beyond any control…..
