I went to ikea like two months ago with a friend and we was touching on all of the cowhide rugs. i told my friend while we were doing it that this is like basically a stack of 300 different cows. he was like nah no way. today i finally remembered to look them up and like.. they are totally real (boom i know what cowhide feels like boo). anyway i’m looking at the display photos on ikea’s website and not only are they styled in a ugly way, they got a picture of the cowhide nailed to the fkn wall!
anyways….. blasted off the pen and started thinking of our relationships with natural materials esp cowhide …
i think it’s kinda distasteful to have a cowhide rug like why are u walking on a cow :( cows are cute like yea we eat them but why not memorialize them in a way that doesn’t include ur dog scooting on it or is subject to the bottoms of your feet
leather is really cool and i feel like we should be using it for more practical things so even like upholstery is borderline offensive to me i guess. i should look up if the alternatives are more eco friendly? i wonder what the politics of leather are. I actually think that’s a good name for this project. i do love leather but why? and why am i so arsed naturally about the use of cowhide?
i need to define what the differences of cowhide and leather are; their sourcing practices (eg. food industry byproducts) and their historical usage. tbh i just need to read a fucking book about it!!!!
