Come find me there :D
I’ve lost count of the amount of times I’ve postponed writing this post. But it’s finally time to put some things into perspective. The 30stmvote Twitter account as you know it is officially over. The decision comes with great sadness but it’s something that I feel needs to be done at this point of my life.
I just completed my Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science. I am 23 years old and I’ve been running this account ever since I was 18. This account has been a crucial part of me for 5 years and it’s definitely not an easy thing to let go. However, I am about to enter a brand new (and exciting) phase in my life. The account (especially when the band is active) takes a huge amount of my personal time – because I always want to provide you with the best possible experience in terms of keeping up with the band, finding the right resources and having your questions answered. This has never been an easy task and it’s something I’ve been doing voluntarily for the past 5 years. When I start something, I want to make sure that I pour 100% of myself into it and I can’t bring myself to do this anymore. Frankly, I’ve grown tired (Well, I’m also getting older).
Now, keeping an inactive account is not an option. I’m not necessarily a perfectionist but I don’t want to keep zombie projects in my life either. I contemplated a lot about the future of the account. What to do with it? I thought about deleting it altogether but I have formed, established and maintained all these precious relationships with so many of you all over the years. If I deleted the account, I would just lose you all in a matter of seconds and I would have to spend weeks trying to find you again. As you can tell, I am not planning to end a time-consuming process to start another one.
After a lot of thought, I decided to keep the account under a different name. The old tweets will be deleted. Some people have followed me for the info/graphics I have provided for the band, some others for the giveaways I hosted with Echelon Donates & ACall2Arms and some others for my snarky sense of humor. Therefore, I am expecting lots of people to unfollow and that’s absolutely okay and understandable. It will be a different account which will not be focused on Thirty Seconds To Mars anymore so feel free to stick around (or not). That’s entirely up to you.
An entertainment blog is in the works for those of you who would like to keep in touch with what I have in store for the world. The Twitter account will take the name of my new blog. The people who know me are aware of my passion about the film/TV show & music industry, that’s why this blog will be entertainment-driven. You could always tell from the way I have Twitter-covered live events such as The Oscars or the VMAs that I have a great interest for the creative industries and I never hid that. Starting this blog is partially inspired by many of my Twitter followers who suggested I start one over the years. I am still working on it and its implementation is currently in the infancy stage but I hope I can bring something very exciting in the digital landscape for all the celebrity worshipers, comic geeks, fandom enthusiasts, quirky film lovers and passionate concert goers out there.
I hate for this to be a lengthy post. I could write an entire book about all the experiences, memories and lessons I gained through this account, the band & the Echelon. I don’t want the band or you to think that this shift of direction is because of something someone did. It really isn’t. I still love Thirty Seconds To Mars with all my heart and there are LITERALLY no words to describe how much I owe them for all the times they picked up my broken pieces or to how many people they have introduced me from all over the world. Jared, Shannon & Tomo, I love you very much and thank you for everything.
This decision was bound to happen sooner or later. I am not considering this a failure. All things in life have a certain cycle and I strongly believe that this is the turning point for this account. It’s time to start entirely anew with the band and the Echelon always in my heart.
Now, listen. I hate goodbyes. And honestly, I don’t need to say “goodbye” because I’m still going to be there – only under a different name. You can still send me selfies of Shannon and expect a wave of heart-wrenching emojis as a reply and you can still expect me to tweet about Jared’s career endeavors and band’s updates. They are still an integral part of me and I still consider myself a dedicated member of the Echelon.
The Facebook account will also take the name of the new blog. Peggy has been doing a tremendous job keeping it up to date but deep down I feel like I’m holding her hostage and that’s not fair. I don’t think I made any friends exclusively from the 30stmvote Facebook page so turning it into something greater should be okay with no massive consequences. The Tumblr account will be kept on for a while since I have many people who still use the graphics on here, plus I want this blog post to stay for some time.I plan on launching an account for the blog on Instagram as well.
So that’s about it. It’s finally off of my chest. I am truly looking forward of the thrilling opportunities the future holds and I hope to share them with all of you because you have been very special to me. Stay tuned for the name of the new Twitter/Facebook/Instagram handle.
Read the entire piece? Thank you so much. Since I feel that I & this account have grown with you, it is my understanding that you have contributed to the evolution of 30stmvote. So if you have any ideas about what you’d like to see in this new blog, I can’t wait to hear your feedback and suggestions. I’d like for the blog to have a content schedule – meaning that I’d want for it to have 2-3 digital columns with a certain theme that are published every week. If you know me and my work, you know I am all for user generated content so I would love to feature my followers every week on the blog – showcasing something special they did or have etc. Anyway, I’m rambling on now, I just wanted to give you a taste of what I’m planning to achieve with this new blog.
As Jared Leto has pointed out:
“You will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the things you did. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
So this is what I’m doing. I’m going “out there”, always searching, learning, creating. Thank you for staying tuned all these years. I couldn’t have asked for anything more.
I love you all. Yours truly,
Sophie
