Rambling about Seth
This is old news, but I recently unlocked this, so I'm gonna talk about it, DANG IT!
I know that I saw people talking about if Seth was wrong or right for this, but I personally think he was right to turn down Lizzie, even the way he turned her down is, I think, ultimately right.
First things first, Lizzie has shown that she doesn't have much care for Seth as a person. She isn't terribly interested in the things he likes, and will even lie to him just to give the impression that the two of them have shared interests.
She goes to watch him train, which Seth clearly enjoys doing because he does it a lot, but when she goes, she looks bored and doesn't actively take part in it. Not only that, when she talks to him about her interests, Seth mentions that their interests are so different, that he has no idea what she's even talking about. And when she tries to get on the same page as him and lies about what kind of noodles she likes, Seth doesn't find it endearing; he's confused about it.
She says that she's been going outside of what she likes to accommodate Seth's likes, and points to this as proof that she does like him. And this is the sticking point--isn't it natural to do things you don't like for the sake of someone you do like? However Seth refutes this.
Seth basically says that being in a relationship or even a friendship with someone who doesn't share your interests is not a good partnership. In other words, Seth doesn't want a significant other who doesn't enjoy the things that he enjoys. He doesn't want to be friends or lovers with someone who lies so easily about what they like, he doesn't want a partner who sits in on the sidelines bored while he does what he likes.
While yes, a relationship is about give and take, to Seth, the two of them are fundamentally different, and incompatible as people. Lizzie can make herself do things that aren't to her taste to try and appeal to Seth, but Seth is such a straightforward, upfront, and honestly perceptive guy, that doing things just to seem like you have similar interests isn't endearing, it comes off as phony. Fake. Disingenuous. A Lie. And its not as if Lizzie is actually going out of her way to meet Seth in the middle. If that were the case, I think this would have been a different conversation. If Lizzie was going to trainings, and participating, but was bad at it, that would be far more endearing to Seth than her sitting out. If she didn't like white bowl noodles, but kept trying them because she wanted to expand her tastes to see what he liked about them, Seth would probably appreciate that earnestness.
Seth, as we know him, loves people who give it their all. But, as he says in the main story:
And, as soon as Seth expresses this, Lizzie immediately attacks his background:
Seth, to this point, has not talked much about his background outside of his familial troubles with his brother. Moreover, from what we've seen, Seth doesn't use his (supposed) privilege to talk down to anyone. In spite of his amazing scores on his exams, he chose to be a field officer instead of desk jockey specifically because he wanted to help people. From how the game presents Seth to us, he isn't 'spoiled', and he doesn't 'lecture' people. This shows that Seth is probably right--Lizzie doesn't really like him. She's certainly *attracted* to him, but she finds the things he likes boring, he finds the things she likes absolutely incomprehensible (and refuses to lie about that), and even before she has an answer for his feelings, talks about 'sending' him to do things. Not only that, while he does appreciate how nice she is to him, he knows that she's not nice to him because of who he is, but because of "some other reason" (she thinks he's hot).
At the end of the day, Seth basically sussed out Lizzie for being attracted to him for his looks or his status, and trying to make herself seem like an appealing partner in an attempt to get his favor. Ultimately, Lizzie didn't like Seth for who he was, and no matter what she did, she would never get his affection because of that.
