No I’m not ready

This 🎪 is damaging that child and the adults are ok with it.

It’s the fact that they still exist.

A year into this circus and we’re still being fed interview scraps, vague tags, unclear innuendos, and kindergarten level social media signalling.

A year of feeling like we’re being played, watched, answered, and treated like complete idiots.

A year in which Sam has lost a lot of the respect and goodwill he had from almost every corner of the fandom. And not because of one relationship or another, but because of the way he has handled himself within it.

This is supposedly a relationship that isn’t private enough to be private, but isn’t public enough to be public either.

It exists in that convenient middle ground where the audience is expected to draw its own conclusions, keep his name in the conversation, and do all the work for him, while he keeps a safe distance from anything definitive.

So after a year, I think it’s fair to call it what it is.

Manipulation.

At this point, if Sam told me it was morning, I’d check the sky. And honestly, how sad is that? To stop believing someone you respected and supported for years.

There’s a reason so many different corners of the fandom have found common ground here. It’s not because everyone suddenly agrees about Sam and Caitriona. It’s not because everyone agrees this is PR, or a beard, or about hidden sexuality. It’s because this specific narrative has managed to offend almost everyone, just for different reasons.

Most people seem to agree that she is a very questionable person with a troubling history. And he himself is coming across either as a manipulative man trolling his own fandom at best, or as a player who knowingly exposes a child, one who has already been through enough instability, to unnecessary risk at worst.

I don’t feel excited about his next projects anymore.

I don’t feel any desire to support his business ventures or his marketing campaigns.

I don’t feel affection for someone who has turned himself into a product and keeps marketing himself through other people, with very little concern for the danger he may be putting them in.

And I don’t have much respect left for a man who seems to have lost every ounce of authenticity, who keeps playing a version of himself I genuinely don’t like, while probably seeing me as nothing more than a walking dollar sign.

It’s time to grow up, Sam.

Meanwhile Cait is stunning, serious and hitting it out of the park.

I genuinely think this was the very last déjà vu anyone in this fandom was hoping for. And yet here we are.

. . . Watching the same storyline being dragged out once again, apparently counting on our collective amnesia. Then again...

If it didn't work in 2018, why exactly would the reboot succeed in 2026?

By the way: a 38-year-old man wearing a matching Nike Equality T-shirt with his alleged 'girlfriend', championing diversity and social inclusion, was already a little cringe.

A 46-year-old man doing the whole matchy-matchy routine: tattoos, shirts, jewelry, and honestly, who even knows what else at this point? -isn't romantic. It's just embarrassing.

Did the people writing this terrible script forget that time passes? Come on, guys. The problem isn't that we've seen this movie before. It's that somehow the remake is even less believable than the original.

And the saddest thing is that all any of us really want is for the Main Character to be free to be himself and live a life that is truly his own - not a borrowed one. Source

I’m addressing you because at this point it’s hard to believe you don’t know exactly what’s happening here.

Do you understand how this looks?

Not the shipper side of it. Not the fandom noise. Just the plain optics: you’re attaching your name, your brand, and the final chapter of a 12-year legacy to a storyline that looks messy, calculated, and frankly embarrassing.

And yes, I’m putting you in this, because you don’t get to play “innocent bystander” when the same pipeline keeps “leaking” the same kind of material on perfect timing, when the rebuttal collages show up right when Tumblr starts asking questions, and when the whole thing is conveniently built around your business ecosystem. If it were truly private, it would stay private. We all know that what we’re watching is mostly damage control.

Here’s the part you need to hear: being associated with someone who has a public history that many people find disturbing or attention-seeking reflects on you too. Even if half of it is rumor, even if some of it is taken out of context, you chose the association and you’re choosing to keep feeding it. You’re letting the story expand while keeping yourself just far enough away to deny responsibility.

And then you show up next to her and the visual is the opposite of what the narrative claims.

If anything, you look like you’re actively avoiding her.

So what exactly are people supposed to conclude?

That you’re stuck in a narrative you don’t even like?

That it was useful until it wasn’t?

That it’s a useful arrangement you can’t be bothered to perform convincingly?

That you’re willing to let her take the hit as long as you keep your hands clean?

Meanwhile you are burning your own image in real time.

This narrative keeps hijacking your moments and making them about her instead. Macbeth should have been a clean career win. The Outlander finale should have been a legacy lap. The tartan parade should have been about Scotland, your brand, your work, your people. Even your birthday should have been just that, your birthday. Instead, every single milestone gets swallowed by the same side story, the same “are they or aren’t they” chatter, the same staged crumbs designed to keep her in the frame. It doesn’t elevate you, it distracts from you. It turns real professional achievements into gossip fuel.

And the saddest part is that this didn’t have to be your arc.

Because the Sam people rooted for wasn’t this.

He was the geeky, awkward, genuinely funny guy who seemed a little naive in the best way. The one who didn’t even look fully aware of how attractive he was, which somehow made him more attractive. The one who came across warm and humble. The one who felt like a decent person underneath the fame, who looked grateful for what the show gave him and grateful for the people who supported him.

This version feels like the opposite.

This version comes across cocky. A player. Someone who manipulates his fans, feeds them just enough to keep them spending, then blames them for reacting. And instead of growing into something bigger than the role, you’re still riding the Jamie Fraser wave while demanding people detach you from him. You’ve built your entire commercial world on Outlander mythology, then act offended when the audience treats you like the face of it.

You’re also underestimating the one thing you used to understand: your fandom’s pattern recognition.

You can’t spend a decade benefiting from their obsession and then act offended when they notice the strings. You can’t troll people on key dates, feed them mixed signals, then complain about the reaction. You can’t ask them to fund your businesses while insulting their intelligence with a year-long “relationship” that you refuse to own, while you act visibly uninterested in the person you’re supposedly with.

And here’s what’s coming whether you like it or not: the hourglass is flipping.

Outlander ends. The casual audience moves on. The hardcore base shrinks. That’s normal. What’s not normal is accelerating that shrink by turning on the people who carried you here. When fewer people are left, who exactly is paying the bills for the brands, the rollouts, the “adventures,” the constant selling?

So yes, she may look ridiculous in this narrative.

Now, granted, it would be trivially easy to argue that my brain has been permanently rewired by years of shipping and that I am therefore an unreliable narrator when it comes to These Matters. Even so, every single time - and I do mean every single time - I encounter one of these posts about the Main Heroine, my immediate reaction is sheer bewilderment. I simply cannot fathom the thought process that leads people to sincerely, earnestly, in the innocence of their hearts, believe that THIS WOMAN ⤵️⤵️⤵️

. . . looked at this man ⤵️⤵️⤵️

and said, 'Yes. Husband'. Him. That guy. That specific specimen.

The mind reels.

Dear Lost Actor (not of the show Lost but really lost), I really want to help you. Well, for the actual fiasco, it's too late, but maybe you can use these tips for your next attempt to convince your public you are a man in love... and taken.

First of all, remember: you are someone who has said countless times that you keep your private life off social media, so when social media is used to divulge something from your private life, it sounds strange, raises suspicions, people start to question why something that should be natural and organic always seems forced when it comes to you.

That's why there are so many theories about you. So here are some tips you can use, and your next relationship will be consistent with what you said all these years.

-First: Look for a discreet woman. Avoid clichés like models, influencers, fitness muses, C-list actresses, or someone who desperately needs to be relevant on social media.

-Speaking of social media, choose someone who has a private profile, one that only family and real friends have access to. Oh, and don't follow that person. After all, you know that all your new follows are observed and catalogued for future use.

-It's also very important to look at that person's past .

-Don't let her name end up in the inbox of any fan blog or gossip page.

-"But how will people know we're together?", you might be wondering. Well, my friend, certainly not through crumbs or insinuations: no shared clothes or accessories.

-Don't make your chosen one seem desperate, following all your friends or parading around in low temperatures like a student platonically in love with the school's quarterback.

-Don't ask your friends or family for help; that will make you seem insecure. It's like you need a crowd to convince you that having something with this person is worthwhile. Remember, you have to appear in control.

-I advise you to avoid having children involved in the equation, but if there are, be extra careful. Exposing children on the internet will never be acceptable, no matter what some parents think. And if you've said countless times that you protect your family and your real life, it wouldn't make sense to let a child (who would be part of your life) be exposed.

-After meticulously following all of this, you would have two paths: an unassuming stroll somewhere normal with your loved one. A warning to the paparazzi, and the photos would be out in the world. Not through fan blogs, not in low quality, not leaked by stalkers.

-Nobody, not even the paparazzi, would be able to identify who the lucky girl is because there would be no online trace to follow. Imagine something like Henry Cavill... simply walking with his then-girlfriend. The surprise of those photos for the fervent fans, for Hollywood, for all the celebrities who secretly (or not so secretly) had a crush on him. Nothing to be said, no response. The press spent hours trying to identify the girl. No name was thrown into fan blogs months ago.

The other way would be to arrive hand-in-hand with the stranger at some event. No words about the relationship. Maybe you don't even need to say her name. This time, there will be real and general surprise because no name was thrown into fans' inboxes, and no insinuations were made. Everyone will speculate, research, and try to find out who the new girl is. And people will start to think that this time it's something real, because it will be consistent with what you've been saying for at least ten years: "some things are just for me," "I like to keep my real life private," "I keep my private life off the internet."

So you'll be in control. People will know her name if you say it. She won't need to seem desperate trying to prove to the world that she's with you.
