this is extraordinarily late but i personally find working with type fonts (like in photoshop) to be a lot easier and faster when trying to make your text look decent. these can be pixel fonts (around 8pt size) and sometimes regular ones work too. you just scale your canvas up or down so the text fits with the art. if you want to do the lettering yourself i suggest checking google for pixel font styles. it usually takes a bit of messing around for me (check my “be mine?” speed paint).

hi! is there something in particular you’re lost with? there are some good tutorials/guides on youtube and pixel art forums like pixel joint. i would suggest looking for beginner guides since there are a lot of techniques like anti-aliasing or dithering that are important and better if learned early. if it’s about your setup i would recommend doing research on some programs to use including specialized ones for pixel art + animation like pyxel edit or aesprite (i just use photoshop). lastly, if you’re finding it hard to fill up your whole canvas then you could be working with too many pixels for your preference. start with dimensions like 32x32 or 64x64 and work your way up. good luck! 💜
