another day another project
the purpose of this tumblr is to share my upcoming activities and passages of time while I take on this 200-minutes challenge. I am a focused and ambitious young person, but like many of us, I often get distracted or sidetracked from a project and move on to other things. ever since I was little I have found it very difficult to attain goals I have made, even when they are good ones or very deeply motivated. I wonder why that is. I maintain high standards for myself when it comes to working with others, like at work and school; also, I treat others with more respect than I bestow on myself. sometimes I wonder if the two are related. the good news is that while I suck at goal attainment, I am really great at coming up with projects! so I came up with this project. it sounds cool and is almost definitely a ton of work.
(also I wanted to do the master cleanse but my bf didn’t want me to. but that’s a different story. so I am doing this instead. it’s less scary sounding and it’s actually do-able whilst keeping my job and everything.)
200 minutes is enough time to get real good and deep with anything. I am determined to spend 200 minutes each day doing something wholesome and strengthening for my mind and body. it could be yoga, meditation, hiking, pilates, running, biking, walking, strength training, or stretching, or a combination. there’s a lot to choose from.
I basically just want to see if being active can really stabilize mood swings and reduce depression. the goal is consistency, because I want to prove to myself that I can stick with something for 20 days. I want to be healthy mentally and physically, and one won’t happen without the other. (that’s why meditation is included. I figure it’s still a physical thing, because you’re connecting your mind to your existence via your breath; the whole thing revolves around breathing patterns.) depression and anxiety have been issues for a long time, and they often appear to loom over my entire field of vision. these are issues that have seriously hindered my daily functionality, seemingly with no solution. I am here to prove that wrong. they say that activity aids depression, and I am quite active enough, but consistency might be what is needed, or perhaps a different kind of activity.
I also want to make sicker beats, I want my music to be more charged and I believe the art and artist imitate each other, like the artist is a vessel for the art to manifest its message just as much as the art is a vessel to channel the artist’s intent. wow, Thing Theory really came through after all. thank you, CWS!
tomorrow is sunday and I have the day off, and monday is labor day so I have that day off too. shouldn’t be difficult to get their 200 minutes in. I already have found yoga vids that I am excited to do, and a regimen all picked out. I am really good at preparing if I know what is coming. the next 6 days might well be entirely yoga.
P.S. >> journaling is also a thing that is said to help with depression. so this is a double-whammy. my time is precious as I sometimes work 10-12 hours a day, so establishing a consistent habit is easy to break because there is so much else to do. but I have already learned about myself that I am quick to stick to a habit if it accomplishes two of my goals at once. thus all there is to do is utilize those goals and pair them, and voila, motivation has doubled. this project involves journaling and goalhitting, so it’s an in. the yoga is also an in, as it incorporates mental focus with physical strength. hiking may also be an option that I stick to, because it involves exploring and being in nature, which are two things I always seek more of. let’s see what there is to do these days, shall we?
and if not, I’m curious to explore what gets in the way. this is as much a psychological experiment on myself as it is a mission in consistency. if I spend 200 minutes journaling about my inner desires and fears, then OK whatever. it will stay on the internet, I suppose.
