In this manga scene where Sapphire is facing Zinnia, I only noticed this detail today. When Salamence is about to strike her, she’s actually crying. It hit me that this moment connects directly to her childhood trauma, the very reason she changed herself in the first place. When she was little, a Salamence attacked her, and Ruby saved her but ended up with a huge scar.

Here, Sapphire is fighting without her voice and carrying the weight of a fear she never truly overcame. Even though she always tried her hardest to hide that vulnerable side of herself, she was terrified the whole time, struggling not to break down. This battle isn’t just physical for her, it’s her confronting a trauma she’s been running from for years.
