Hello everyone. I wanted to discuss something that I have been analyzing for some time now and that's the significance of the Overblot Eye Flame.
As we know the flame can either appear on either eye. But what do they mean? Considering there is no actual answer, in-game or by the developers, here's my analysis.
Depending on which eye the flame emerges from (Left or Right) is determined by their motives and intentions throughout the story.
Left Eye: Malicious Intentions from the beginning.
Right Eye: Good Intentions with bad outcomes.
Left Eye: Those with the flame on the left eye had malicious/evil Intentions from the beginning of their story. (Leona, Azul, Jamil)
Leona: He knowingly and intentionally had Ruggie use his Unique Magic to sabotage the best Spell-drive players of the other houses to have an easier chance at winning and later orchestrated the Stadium stampede in hopes of injuring Malleus so that he wouldn't be unable to play in the competition and give Savanaclaw an easy win. He would win, no matter who he had to crush in his way.
Azul: He intentionally scammed countless students into signing contracts with him. Which he knew majority of them would not be able to achieve their end of the bargain, resulting in them getting anemones on their heads and forced to work for him. And when Yuu/MC makes a deal with Azul in order to free the boys, Azul kicks Yuu/MC and Grim out of Ramshackle (since Yuu offered it as collateral) and sent the Tweels to stop the boys from getting the picture from the museum. He would have whatever he desires.
Jamil: He used his Unique Magic to make Kalim act as a Tyrant with extreme mood changes. Being his happy party guy self one moment then harsh and demanding the next. All while pretending to be kind and considerate to the other house members so that he looks like a good guy in hopes that the other members will seek to depose Kalim from his position as Housewarden and name Jamil the new Housewarden. He would never be second to anyone ever again.
Right Eye: Those with the flame on the Right eye, started the story with somewhat good/honorable intentions but events in the story caused them to do malicious deeds. (Riddle, Vil, Idia, Malleus)
Riddle: He wanted to maintain and honor the traditions of the Heartslabyul dorm by making sure everyone followed the rules of the Queen of Hearts. (As absurd as they may be) He was a strict Housewarden. But with Ace's continued defiance and rulebreaking led to Riddle having a tighter grip and started to become even more strict and tyrannical even forcing the rules onto those not in violation. He wanted to honor tradition but became a Tyrant.
Vil: When Vil was made the leader for the SDC he made sure to pick the best from the auditions. He and his team worked hard to be perfect and in sync. He wanted to beat Neige and RSA fairly but his envy kept creeping up on him. After their performance he chanced his Mirror app and was happy to hear it say he was "the fairest of all." But the moment he saw Neige's performance he quickly realized that he would never win at least not through being fair. So he decided to do whatever it took to Finally be number one and attempted to curse Neige, but was stopped by Rook and the others. He wanted to win fairly but his envy drew him over the edge.
Idia: After all the years Idia still feels responsible for what happened to Ortho. So he helps his parents in furthering their Blot research. He wanted to make sure that what happened to Ortho never happens again. And after discovering that their had been 5 previous Overblots happen in the school he had his Charons kidnap the Overblot boys. He wanted to understand how the Overblot occurred within his classmates by running simulation tests. But when our current Ortho seemingly became possessed by the original Ortho, Idia descended the levels of Tartarus to the very bottom. Where he then discovered the Original Ortho was trapped within Tartarus (Now having become a Phantom) Idia was offered by Ortho the chance to be together again and recreate the world in their image so that they can be free. And he accepted. All he wanted was his brother back but had to destroy the world to do it.
Malleus: He always lived a lonely life either being admired or feared by those around him. But he cherishes his relationship his Lilia and Yuu/MC. Lilia raised Malleus and those formed a close bond with either other. Yuu/MC was the first person to treat Malleus like a normal person and the two form a unique bond. But when Lilia announces that he is leaving NRC and Yuu mentions potentially having found a way home (with Mickey's help) Malleus feels like everything is moving too fast and doesn't want things to change. So in order to keep Lilia, Yuu/MC, and all his friends from leaving him, he used his magic to place them in an enchanted sleep, so they could be with him forever. He was a lonely boy who wanted true companionship, but once he felt it slip away he would do anything to keep it.
And there you have it. My in depth analysis of the Overblot Flames. Hope you enjoyed reading.
