Day 13 part 3 of catching up on Costumes.
Better hide when you see it's shadow, it's Vulture Mama Dodo (Martha)!
So this costume is a mixed bag for me, but I'll start off by saying in case you don't recognize it, it's inspired by the Vultures in Rain World. Rain World is a game where you play as a little slug cat and try to survive in what I would consider the most complex and interesting simulations of an alien ecology TO DATE. As someone with a biology field who loves animals and HATE when the animals don't feel "real", this one game really hit it home.
Though more of a cult hit and honestly should get more praise in my opinion. However, due to it's difficulty and lack of hand holding, I can see why people end up dropping it quickly. Lucky for me I have the family trait of being hard headed and stubborn so that didn't bother me much. So if you love a game that feels real, rich in deep lore, secrets to explore, and multiple endings to unlock, I would recommend giving it a shot!
Now why is this one a mixed bag for me. Well, this one was the first one I "attempted" to try to make into something that plays with physics (think live2d and vtube studio). Of course though I bit off more than I can chew, and wasn't able to progress enough into it to make it happen. I wanted to have the neck dangle and move with the movement of the mouse, almost giving it a muppet vibe.
Due to the time restraints it resulted into a quick version of what you see above. I think it took a total of 30 min. to make. Thinking that I really phoned it in, I was surprised to find out that the community absolutely loved it. So much so that one of them named her "Martha", a first personal name for any costume so far.
Maybe it's because I'm blinding of what my original goal was, or maybe this falls in the category of "It's always the content with seemingly the least amount of effort, that resonates with the most people" conundrum. Either way, I'm glad people love it so. Sometimes I just wish I felt the same.
Remember that sometimes it's difficult getting out of your own head and see things from the perspective of others. In this case where the external perspective is positive and internal is negative, I recommend putting your own feelings aside and accept and celebrate the love people have for something you made.
Just try not to take it personally your next project that you put 1000x more effort into ends up being a flop. That's just the way it goes sometimes.
I'll try not to have such a long break between now and the next part.
No promises though.
See y'all next time!
