getting absurdly into pinback over the past day or so
kind of want to find more albums that very specifically take advantage of being an 'album' as something you'd listen to in one go vs. being a collection of songs. i mean narrative albums are an obvious example and songs that generally fade or transition into eachother are pretty common here too. but my (obvious) favorites are frances the mute and mount eerie which also love a lot of atmospheric noise shit, which i kind of think helps envelop things in a 'space', a certain place and a certain time like 'this can only happen here in this album'.
non-narrative examples would include smth like songs for the deaf that has a unifying theme of like driving and flipping through the radio. another fun version that is well known is nonagon infinity just being endlessly loopable. but im rather fond of approaching the idea of the album to make the most out of specifically being an album even when it doesnt fully work out. and really most albums have some kind of unity between the songs through various factors (lyrical themes, production, all songs being recorded around the same time, blah blah blah) so in stretching that you would say its an inherit part of the medium. but i feel like when i use frances the mute as an example it kind of clarifies what i mean by this. basically just really pushing it.
iksse3 is my favorite because musically the best. story wise it feels like its just introducing important pieces and putting people into place for the most part with some fun diversions. but musically its just banger after banger after banger
i think my fondness for coheed is really incidental since i only started caring because i learned about how weird-funny-meta-bad the story of good apollo is. i mean the amory wars is charming and bad in the way that it is essentially a teenager's 'i have a really good idea for a comic book' story, in all its cliche and edgy glory. and in a way i feel like the internet kind of ruins something about the joy of immature novice confidence in ideas. so ive got a fondness for this sort of thing existing at all. and even more pleased by the fact that claudio was able to actually make it into a comic book. the pop-rock/metal bangers with proggy sprinkles just kind of helped it along.

and with that being said i dont really think that the level 2 of 'the stuff that people think is good is all bad actually' is really all that different from the level 1, mindset wise. it just changes what is and isnt acceptable to admit to liking. a lot of the times its still more breadth than depth anyway. a conversation with someone who's passionate about something that i think sucks is still a lot more interesting and informative. or being able to talk about the flaws in the things that i do like or what have you.
i mean making it about the albums not 'actually being good' or the people not actually 'liking the albums the right way' or even that they have no emotional connection to them or something like that isnt really getting at the root of why its such a weird thing... the fact that they are widely considered good and enjoyable and profound is something thousands of people collectively agree on. i just think that at starting from this point something kind of breaks your brain in a way where youre more concerned with shit that just doesn't matter and doesn't add to a conversation.
thinking about the thing with the 'my top 100 song' videos since i was talking about it with partner and bf on different days. i think its just kind of a bad idea to take the approach of listening to the top 100 albums of all times or whatever as a teenager because it gives you the worst kind of brain worms about how to approach music or movies or whatever that makes the internet so insufferable. latching onto something for rebellions sake or because its new and exciting to you or whatever else is what i feel like forms really strong experiences and memories...
i mean for the most part top-charted critically acclaimed shit reaches a baseline level of quality. the problem isnt that any of those things are "bad" but that if its all you ever are and all youll ever be everyone ends up in the same fucking place: liking the same shit everyone else likes, in the same kind of acceptable way, picking fights over an ordering thats arbitrary as-is. feels more about completionism than enjoying anything and having experiences, really. theres a kind of detachment you develop when you try and churn through lists of 'the best' of things and if you start off without any frame of reference. thats just going to set you back as a whole, probably maybe.
the music dweeb version of 'he would not fucking say that' is 'he would not fucking listen to that' and idk i just want to see some really funny examples because ive definitely been a witness to it myself
weird phenomena ive seen with the random top 100 song videos: itcotck will be on the list, but their song pick will be epitaph. i like epitaph. its a good song. but schizoid man and the title track are also there, like, they're almost all equally good but im just saying. why is it always epitaph specifically.
also very rare to have any other prog on the list but MAYBE starless or like shine on you crazy diamond.
people really let the psychiatric institution off the hook too early and too soon for their role in the satanic panic. plenty of the fuckers pushing that dreck continue to do so while licensed or teaching and boards seem to just look the other way until they can't. obviously theres a lot of other shit to talk about but i just find this fucking weird as hell.

sometimes i wonder if people think of humility and having principles as being incompatible.
talking about GA1 verbally is purposefully finding every opportunity to say Good Apollo I'm Burning Star IV Part 1: From Fear Through The Eyes of Madness
are there any instances of a guy becoming a father actually making their art better? because it feels like it gets worse like, 99% of the time
i do have quite a lot of fondness for the philosophy of velocity though in spite of its issues. i think it feels really ambitious in a way that i appreciate. and its weird that its basically a steampunk album if you pay attention to the lyrics? plus its also a voltalike, just light on the prog. can hear the influence though during certain segments.
does anyone know what the graphic design style the fucking take me out music video has? like fuck y2k its overplayed as hell now, talk about whatever is going on with the digital collage and grunge textures and vector graphics

i really like brazil's 1 ep the most out of their releases now that time has passed. but like i just now noticed that the philosophy of velocity is on spotify with 3 songs that weren't on the CD i got forever ago? so now i gotta know
i think that a lot of online discussion around books is exhausting. lets put them in the ring. the booktokers, the genrefic nerds and the litbros can tear each other apart. oh shit, in comes the litrpg royal road reader with a steel chair!!!!!!!!!!!
