Ok, so now that we got our CDs and patches, which subsect of the The Tortured Poets Dept. are you in?

I do think my favourite part of the tortured poet's department is how unreliable the narration is. Like it's done purposefully from the very beginning. This is not from a moment in time where the writer is making sense of things in a way that is logical or connected to reality. It is contradictory, incorporates toxic behaviours, and the actions and reactions throughout different strands are based in feelings that are not grounded or even necessarily based on reality at all.

she really went from "who you are is not what you did" to "you are what you did"...

I think it's so wild that Swifties think they can sit here talking about Taylor's life and decisions 24/7 and she can have no say in it? She isn't allowed to have thoughts and opinions about us talking about her all the time? She isn't allowed to make art about how that makes her feel? We deserve to be called out by her, it's completely fair and valid. To think otherwise is naive. And I personally find it refreshing that she isn't acting like having rabid fans is all roses and sunshine all the time, for once.

having so many thoughts about the nature of storytelling right now. about how the story of a girl driven to insanity is more compelling and less palatable than a story of someone scorned and heartbroken. about how public perception of art bleeds into the life of the artist. about living for the record instead of recording about the life. about what makes a good album and how that intersects and conflicts with what makes a happy human. about the toll that takes on a woman who, at the end of the day, just wants to be heard and understood, but feels terrified to let anyone down with the truth. IDK YOU GUYS

This is not a pretty album. it's not what people thought they wanted to hear, it's not what anyone predicted. I'm not sure it's supposed to be for anyone but herself in a way and I absolutely love that.

Tell me why I thought it was 'I used to switch out these KEDS' LIKE SOME BATSHIT PRODUCT PLACEMENT FROM THE RED ERA???? i thought that lyric was strange😭😭

i think a lot of people are missing the point of the songs. the person behind the pronoun keeps changing. she’s expressing her feeling about joe via matty. for example in fortnight imo “all of this to say, i hope you’re okay, but you’re the reason, and no one here's to blame, but what about your quiet treason?” is about joe and then “and for a fortnight, there we were, forever running, till you sometimes ask about the weather, now you’re in my backyard, turned into good neighbors” is about matty, and the “i love you, it’s ruining my life” is about both of them. also, based on your interpretation, you could switch people around to fit these songs because it seems they’re a lot alike… a lot of what she’s trying to say is “what happened between us [her & joe] drove me to be insane” and the insane part happened with matty, hence, he’s in all these songs. i think we need to think of these songs in hoax light aka about 2 or people at once

“at dinner, you take my ring off my middle finger, and put it on the one people put wedding rings on, and that’s the closest i’ve come to my heart exploding” is another great example in the sense that it’s about matty, but it’s really representing how she felt about her relationship with joe. and imo it happens in a lot of songs. i think we need to analyze more and dig deeper with the context she’s given us instead of just listening to the lyrics and thinking they’re about one moment in time.
