40 years ago today, at the age of 25, Leonid died due to radiation, likely because he returned to try and help. His story stuck out to me very much in my research, and I feel he likely shouldered a lot of guilt. In my eyes, though, he was strong and brave.

I’ve been fixated on Chernobyl lately—I read ‘Midnight in Chernobyl’ by Adam Higginbotham, an extensive account of the events leading up to and following the disaster at the Ukrainian nuclear power plant—and then I rewatched the HBO miniseries Chernobyl for the third time. I decided to do a little piece inspired by a story about three cows who were found wandering near the abandoned reactor months after. Scientists named them Alpha, Beta, and Gamma after the three types of radiation particles, and they believed them rendered infertile by the radiation exposure. They were wrong! They’ve since had healthy calves. I think it’s a neat little story of nature’s triumph over human-caused adversity. The patterns are traditional Ukrainian embroidery, and the wheat and sunflower crowns are also considered Ukrainian national symbols, so the piece represents Ukrainian triumph as well

At Jun Takahashi's Undercover Fall 2015 womenswear show, models wore plastic masks with fixed, exaggerated facial features, raised eyebrows, high cheekbones, and perfectly symmetrical faces. These masks symbolized cosmetic procedures, reflecting society's obsession with youth and the perpetual need of a younger appearance.

I've only ever seen the 1st one with Stone & not the 2nd with Jeff (I think it's Jeff)
