Sometimes the sketches I create for my Ko-Fi subscribers lead to larger projects, such as this painting. Initially inspired by the painting "Death as General Rides a Horse on a Battlefield" by Edgar Bundy, I gradually moved away from the original reference as I progressed, particularly in terms of the setting. There are many paintings depicting snowy landscapes that I love immensely, and which inspired me for this illustration. To name just a few, there were, for example: βWalkenried Abbey Ruins in Snowβ and βRuined cathedrals and monasteriesβ by Carl Hasenpflug for exemple.
I experimented quite a bit and, in the end, it was the aesthetic rather than the story to be told that guided my choices. That happens sometimes.
I hope you like it.
