Daughter Of Poseidon! Annabeth who is still incredibly strategic and intelligent, but easily bored, so she’s been kicked out of the best classes and schools all over the East Coast because even though she finishes all of her work on time and correctly, she’s bouncing off the walls as soon as her mind is no longer stimulated. Her mother Alea, exhausted, finally sits her down to tell her about her heritage and explain that she’ll be going to Camp Half Blood full time, year round. Naturally, Annabeth explodes, and so does the toilet and all of the sinks in their Boston apartment.
Meanwhile, Son Of Athena!Percy is feeling left out in the cabin at camp. He’s always fiddling with something, touching the beads around his neck with his forehead creased in thought. Though he’s more laid back than his siblings, he misses his dad, Paul, greatly as a year rounder, and his little sister Estelle. His step mom, Sally, is much preferred to Athena — and he doesn’t care that that’s an affront to the goddess. Percy is known for being a master strategist, brutal and unforgiving in battle, even if he fights with just a dagger. The campers are a little scared to spar with him, because he analyzes their movements and weaknesses in real time and takes them down accordingly. Percy just… wants to make friends, but it’s hard to do so when all he really knows is strategy.
On the way to Camp Half Blood, Daughter Of Poseidon! Annabeth is fighting off monsters left and right. And she’s pissed chile. Her braids are soaking wet, which means they won’t be drying for hours, leading to the sensory nightmare of water dripping all over her while she’s trying to fend for herself. And her edges look a mess, which just pisses her off even more. Her mother sent her alone, of course, pressing a pen in her hand and telling her a centaur would intercept her — whatever that bullshit meant. She meets Chiron halfway through her trip, to whom she tosses the pen and watches it transform into a sword. He slices through a Fury, his eyes dark and sad before providing her shelter and proof her mother connected with him. Also introduced is the satyr Grover, Annabeth’s assigned protector. He’s a little squirrelly, but he’s loyal and has a good heart. The three continue their journey until they arrive at camp.
Son Of Athena! Percy is out canvassing the forest for Capture The Flag when he hears there’s a new girl in the Big House. She killed the Minotaur with just a sword, saved Chiron’s and Grover’s lives in the process. He thinks she could be the one, the person in the prophecy looming over all of their heads. The campers don’t know who her parent is (typical), but he goes and visits her anyway, shocked to discover she looks… a little like Aphrodite from what he can remember of the flash that he saw of her, or princess from an old myth, a face he thinks he might have seen before, a memory from a dream. Blearily, she opens her eyes and all that comes out of his mouth is, “You drool when you sleep.” Thankfully, she passes right back out afterwards and he doesn’t have to deal with that blunder.
Daughter Of Poseidon! Annabeth wakes up, thinking she saw a god. Curly blonde hair and blue eyes swam before her vision. Maybe she imagined him. She doesn’t know. She wipes the drool off her mouth and heads to the Hermes cabin. It’s loud and chaotic and she sticks to herself, even when Connor Stoll offers her a smile and a place to sleep next to him. She ends up escaping to the water, like always, walking up and down the beach. She sees him coming, and her sword flashes into her hands. He holds his hands up, and the dagger within them, before lowering them. It’s then that she realizes — “It’s you.”
