“He does every character, going from a Scottish accent to Irish and American within seconds. It’s amazing. We were so lucky to get him as it was before he did Doctor Who, but he’s been so loyal he has come back to do them ever since. I actually get to sit in the studio and watch him doing it. One time he broke off and said, ‘I think you made a bit of a mistake here.’

“He’s so smart, he spots even the tiniest discrepancy. He’s such a very bright guy and a brilliant actor.

The first trailer for Disney+’s forthcoming TV adaptation of Jilly Cooper’s Rivals has dropped, starring the always magnificent David Tennant. I bet he will have an absolute whale of a time playing Lord Tony Baddingham. Rivalswas one of my go-to comfort reads when I was in my 20s, so very nostalgic for me and so many others. Everything David touches seems to turn to gold, from Hamlet to Broadchurch to Staged to Good Omens, and the lead director of Rivals is Ted Lasso’s Elliot Hegarty, so I have high expectations for this.
