The age group at my work is 16 to early 20s. One of the 16 year old boys raped his girlfriend. Everyone knows about it, that she said no many times and he did it anyway. All the girls were horrified and treated it seriously. None of us would talk to him unless we had to for the job, in which we would speak curtly (e.g. not say "please"). The boys were a completely different story. They were all still talking to him normally, laughing with him, hanging around him, having fun. One of the boys said, "He didn't rape me, why should I care?" I confronted another boy who I was friends with why he was spending the whole shift laughing with the rapist and walking around with him, and didn't he know what happened? He smiled and said, "I might know." I said dude wtf, and he was laughing and said, "You have to forgive and forget." Even the boys I thought were nice and I had hope in seemed bad. One boy called the rapist on his phone to ask him where he was since he didn't show up to work. There was no reason to call him, the manager takes care of that, he was just curious so he calls him right up. I thought this boy was sweet so I was disappointed because I hope calling him like that doesn't mean they are friends. There was only one boy, who has a younger sister who is also an employee and his sister is friends with the victim, that actually seemed disgusted by the rapist and didn't want to be friendly with him. Out of about 20 boys he was the only one who merely said anything bad about the rapist. My friend said to me, "I knew the boys wouldn't care." :(
