Scent as a regional or ethnic feature.
Scent as always been a central point in ABO. No person has the same scent but all three dynamics have a “core scent”, unlike any other scent in existence, which allows them to be identified as part of the same group amongst the three dynamics. In other words, two Omegas will have distinct scents from each other, but they both still clearly smell like Omega.
What I am to suggest is the opposite. What if much like accent variation and certain physical features in the real world helps us to bundle people into a certain category, in Omegaverse certain scent can be used to identify or classify certain people in ethnic or regional groupings?
Dynamics would not be a factor anymore, since this is about where these people (or their ascendants) come from. So An Alpha, an Omega and a Beta of the same region or ethnic group all smell different because of the difference in dynamics and unique personal scent, but they all have one hint, or one trace of a scent in common given their ethnical or regional similarities. Therefore, if a group of people was native, endemic or just lived up the mountains for a long period of time. To say that they “carry the scent of the mountains” is not incorrect, because they indeed do.
Is worth noting that what I’m suggesting is not a scent that in present because they live amongst the mountains/countryside/sea side so it “sticks” to them (kinda like orange or garlic smell sticks to your skin after handling these things, and then vanishes after a while). It’s not a superficial smell by coming in contact with soil or plant life of the region. It is a permanent genetic imprint that they carry for life. If this came to be as a form of survival strategy created by their bodies, making them more difficult to be tracked by other humans or predators if they blended better with the environment, or if it came to be as a form of segregation and identification between packs in older times, it is unknown.
I think there would be different levels to this. It could extend from pack, to city, to region, to country, to continent, to race. So for example: All people from the UK have a scent in common that clearly identifies them as all from the same country, but English and Scottish people have differing scents that allow them to be identified as either from one country or the other, and then different regions, different cities and down the rabbit hole we go. To be fair, I think this wouldn’t be much of a thing in highly miscegenated countries and regions, or even in big cities by that matter. People’s genetic pool is so blended in these places that it all ends up more “uniform”. It would be something that would just extend to the country or broad regional aspect part at best, and only noticed by foreigners.
So this is my suggestion. So what do you guys think of it? Feel free to tell me if you like it or not, or to add on to it if you wish ^^
